Muscle relaxant

There are cases in which relaxation of muscles and body groups is a very difficult task. To solve this problem, there are special drugs that relax the muscles. Muscle relaxants are perfectly handled with the task of anesthesia, relieving tension in muscles.

Advantages of such medicines are deservedly considered:

  • Reducing muscle tone.
  • Blocking of neuromuscular impulses, due to which the pathological conduction (impulsion) from the muscles to the nerve endings and central nervous system decreases.
  • Relaxing of the musculature of a person and preventing her spasms in pathological conditions and attacks of epilepsy, tetanus, rabies and other diseases.

It is important that on amnesia does not occur any confusion or loss of consciousness.

Muscle relaxants play an important role in the removal of the pain syndrome and relaxation. But it should be remembered that it is possible to apply this kind of drugs only on the prescription of a doctor and as part of complex therapy.

It is impossible to relax the swollen or pinched muscles yourself, by concentrating effort, with special relaxing exercises or massage, you have to use medications – muscle relaxants.

It should be noted that muscle relaxants only relieve tension and muscle pain, but they don’t eliminate the cause of the pain. Therefore, they should be treated as an additional, auxiliary agent that increases the effectiveness of the taken measures like therapeutic massage, exercises, and other activities.

The action of muscle relaxants consists in blocking the neuromuscular transmission and decreasing the pathological impulse to the central nervous system. Because muscle relaxants prevent muscular spasms, they are often used in anesthesiology and surgery.

Central action drugs are used for:

  • Neurological pathologies with increased muscle tone
  • Diseases with impaired motor function In anesthesiology In anticonvulsant therapy (against epilepsy)
  • Peripheral relaxation medicines are needed when:
  • Reducing pain syndrome and muscle spasm
  • Anesthesia with microsurgical interventions (including redirection dislocations, endoscopic manipulations, etc.)

Any medicinal product has side effects, and muscle relaxants are not exceptions. Even the right product can cause:

  • Cardiac disorders, blood pressure jumps
  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth and thirst
  • Hyperthermia (overheating) or hyperkalemia (accumulation of excess potassium in the body)
  • Intraocular pressure

Almost all relaxation drugs are accompanied by fasciculations – involuntary twitching of the muscles. To exceed the dosage prescribed by the doctor, to engage in self-medication.

Often muscular relaxants are prescribed for the treatment of osteochondrosis, one of the symptoms of which is a spasm of the muscles of the back and a progressive pain syndrome due to it. In this case, it is recommended to use relaxants – tablets, designed to relax the skeletal muscles.

Although the choice of muscle relaxants in modern pharmacology is wide enough, you should not take them uncontrollably. It should be remembered that both tablets and injections are prescribed by the doctor, determining the correct dosage and taking into account the nature, severity, and cause of the disease.
