In case of mild to moderate malfunction of the kidney and in patients with a tendency to epileptic seizures, the drug should be used with caution by the physician.
What should you watch out for during pregnancy and lactation?
No evidence of direct or indirect harmful effects on the gestation and development of offspring has been found in animal studies. To date, there have been too few studies in humans that have proven the safety of cetirizine during pregnancy. Therefore, the drug should not be used during the first three months of pregnancy.
Cetirizine passes into breast milk and thus into the baby. In order to prevent damage to the child, it must be weaned before treatment with the active ingredient.
What should be considered in children?
Children under the age of two should not be treated with cetirizine because the safety of use in this age group has not been demonstrated. The manufacturers make depending on the potency of the preparations different information for the age limit. In case of doubt, read the package leaflet or consult your doctor.
- Reactivity may be reduced by treatment with the drug, which makes driving a car and operating machinery dangerous. This is especially true in conjunction with alcohol.
