About Xalatan

The action of the medicine

The main active substance of the drug is latanoprost. It is an analog of prostaglandin, a hormone-like substance contained in the tissues of a living organism. Prostaglandins are synthesized in the cartilaginous tissue, in the vessels, in the muscles. They participate in the metabolism, and above all, in the regulation of blood pressure.

Latanoprost easily penetrates through the cornea, where hydrolysis occurs. As a result of complex chemical reactions, an active acid is formed, which has a medicinal effect.

Further, the main component of Xalatan affects the intraocular pressure, contributing to the correct distribution of the intraocular fluid. The reason for increasing eye pressure is an excessive amount of moisture in some places and a disadvantage in others. Using Xalatan, the patient achieves a uniform “pouring” of the liquid, while not reducing its number.

Indications

Intraocular pressure is the main cause of the appearance of a formidable disease, glaucoma. Therefore, patients suffering from glaucoma become the primary consumers of drops of Xalatan.

It is important to make a distinction between those who have an open-ended disease and a closed-angle disease. In the first case, drops help well. In the second the drug is either not prescribed at all, or with great care, because with this disease the primary task is to achieve a reduction in moisture production. Otherwise, it is collected in one corner and can cause the pressure to rise to critical numbers.

Drops, getting inside (they penetrate through the cornea), reduce the intraocular pressure due to the outflow of moisture.

Application

Drops should be instilled once a day (not more often). An increase in the frequency of instillation not only does not enhance the curative effect but can have directly opposite consequences: intraocular pressure will increase. Therefore, strictly follow the doctor’s instructions and carefully read the instructions!

That the medicine has acquired better after instillation, cover the eye and for a few seconds lightly squeeze the lacrimal sac.

The maximum effect is achieved 8-10 hours after the administration of the drug. And begins Xalatan to act 3 hours after the drops hit the eye.

Do not hold the vial for more than 4 weeks. It is desirable to store it in the refrigerator.

I have been taking Xalatan for 13 years and my intraocular pressure remains stable and under 18. Unfortunately, Xalatan was changed last year and does not need to be stored refrigerated. Since then, I have stinging pain after dripping. I can only buy and use the old vials in France.

    Xalatan for Glaucoma

I never had any problems with my ears in my CV. Never pain or constipation. Using latanaprost, I sometimes felt pressure in my left ear from time to time, then some pain a few times. A little more than a month ago, the ear was completely shut for the first time and I developed a persistent, very quiet tinnitus. After the treatment, it is now swollen inside again after two weeks and almost too, the tinnitus of course reinforced.

    Xalatan for Glaucoma

Hereby I announce, after getting out of Xalatan, again to speak. As for me, this drug had bad side effects that I have already described. These symptoms are now completely gone and I feel almost like a new person. This medication had so affected my condition that sometimes I did not know about weakness and tiredness, how to get through the day. I have to thank myself for coming up with the idea that it might be due to Xalatan. So if you have the same symptoms and take this medicine, it should stop immediately and wait for the effect. From my point of view, such a drug should not be prescribed. I was downright ill with this drug, the causes were not recognized and attributed to another disease.

They expressed themselves in cardiac arrhythmia, bradycardia, and general disability. On a walk, it came to a heart block. Dizziness and dread were the symptoms. They improved after about 15 minutes. The family doctor and the cardiologist advised for the immediate discontinuation of the drops. After about 14 days already the symptoms improved significantly. The bradycardia remained.
