Trazodone contraindications and warnings

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to trazodone, pregnancy, lactation, ventricular arrhythmia, tachycardia, myocardial infarction (early recovery period), priapism in the anamnesis.
Use the drug with caution in case of heart diseases, arterial hypotension, arterial hypertension (correction of the dosage regimen of antihypertensive drugs due to possible hypotensive action is necessary), renal and/or hepatic insufficiency, age to 18 years.

Special instructions:

When taking Trazodone, peripheral blood control is necessary because of the possibility of reducing the number of leukocytes.
It does not have anticholinergic action, so Trazodone can be prescribed for patients suffering from prostatic hypertrophy, glaucoma, cognitive impairment, and elderly patients.
Sedation and hypotensive effects are more common in elderly patients.
Male patients need to be warned about the need to seek immediate medical attention (while canceling the drug) with the appearance of prolonged and inadequate erections.
Corresponding studies of the relationship between trazodone effects and age in pediatrics have not been carried out. Therefore, use of the drug in persons under the age of 18 should be done with caution. Doses for children under 6 years are not established.
Dry mouth can lead to the development of caries, periodontal diseases, candidiasis and the appearance of unpleasant sensations in the oral cavity.
During the treatment by Trazodone, care must be taken when driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially dangerous activities that require an increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
