Effect of Tamsulosin
Tamsulosin belongs to the group of the Alpha-Sympatholytika. It works specifically on the alpha-1 receptors in the genitourinary tract. Alpha-1 receptors are special binding sites of the sympathetic fibers of the autonomic nervous system, which are normally activated by the body’s own messengers adrenaline and norepinephrine. Tamsulosin displaces these endogenous messenger substances at the receptors and thus suppresses their effect.
Alpha-1 receptors are located on certain muscle cells within the tissue of the prostate gland (prostate). The prostate lies in a ring around the urethra, which leads outward from the bladder. As part of a benign prostate enlargement, the mechanical narrowing of the urethra by the greatly enlarged prostate gland occurs. In addition, there is also an increased tension of the smooth muscles in the prostate tissue, which enhances the urinary drainage disorder. This smooth muscle cell tension mediated by alpha-1 receptors is lowered by tamsulosin. The urethral narrowing is reduced, making urination much easier
Tamsulosin is very long. In addition, unlike other alpha-sympatholytic drugs, there has been no unwanted drop in blood pressure so far.
