Application of the active ingredient Tamoxifen

Tamoxifen is used for follow-up treatment after initial treatment of breast cancer. Tamoxifen is also used to treat daughter ulcers in a breast cancer tumor.

In addition, tamoxifen has been shown to be effective in preventing breast cancer in high-risk patients in a four-year clinical trial (National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project).

For the following application areas of Tamoxifen , in-depth information is available:

  • breast cancer

Effect of Tamoxifen

Some cancers are promoted in their formation and growth by hormones. This is, for example, the case of breast cancer, whose development and spread is dependent on the female sex hormone estrogen. The estrogen attaches to special hormone receptors on the cancer cells and stimulates them to grow.

Tamoxifen belongs to the drug class of antiestrogens and typically blocks the binding of estrogen to the hormone receptor of cancer cells. Due to the lack of growth signal by the hormone there is a decrease in cell proliferation. In the case of metastatic breast cancer, treatment with tamoxifen causes complete or partial regression in about 30% of cases, especially of the secondary tumors in the soft tissues and bones. The probability of recurrence is even around 50 to 60 percent if the presence of estrogen receptors in the tumor tissue has been proven.

In early-stage breast cancer, prolonged non-relapse and survival time can be achieved by tamoxifen therapy after surgery.

Tamoxifen itself does not inhibit the growth of cancer cells. The active substance is converted into the active form endoxifen after absorption into the body in the liver by the enzyme CYP2D6.

After my breast surgery, I was prescribed tamoxifen, the drug should take 5 years. After a short time I got to the hot flashes, water retention in the legs and stomach. Pain in the joints. Memory disorders and increased RR values. I discontinued the medication after 3 months. Every 3 months in the oncologist, blood tests are great. Diet changed, feel fit and slim through metabolic power. Life energy great, like never before. Sports and working is really fun.

I take Tamoxifen 20mg are January, so only 6 months. In the beginning there were no side effects. After about 2 months, I got a push under the true costal arch. The liver values were ok and also when pressing by the doctor nothing conspicuous. Since the pressing did not go away I researched on the Internet and found that other women were like that. One recommended milk thistle extract as this helps the liver to detoxify. I started to take these and now the pressure is gone. For over a week now and then I now have a slight dizziness, from time to time to have the feeling of cotton in my head and I also find slight memory difficulties. If it stays with the symptoms udn not get any more, I can live with it.

Take Tamoxifen for one and a quarter years, in the first year very good tolerability (no weight gain!). Side effects now set in: previously unknown concentration disorders, sometimes diminishing memory (I am only 48 and very active). No hot flashes, but a much stronger sense of cold, actually freezing constantly. All in all, however, these side effects are so far to tolerate, I think.

From the Zoladex I got the osteoporosis, which would have been avoidable if the doctor had informed me better and provided with additional vitamin D. Unfortunately, I did not come up with such an idea and when I thought it was too late because of constant bone pain. Zoladex helped me defeat the cancer, but as I said, this side effect was kept from me. Osteoporosis is now treated with Aclasta. Devil stuff that! For me very effective (no more breaks, standstill of osteoporosis) but holla the side effects! I always plan a weekend as a case of infusion. High fever, now also itching rash / wheals, miserable, miserable. But after about 48 hours everything is over. Always better than breaks. But: very high risk for the kidneys, will discuss itself again if after two years Bonviva is not going again. It annoys the 3-month infusions, but I had no noticeable side effects.

I had breast cancer, should get 4 x chemo, then 25 irradiations. After completion of Chemeo I got tamoxifen tablets, of which I have taken a total of 20 pieces (1 day), I felt worse every day – ATEMNOT- last I could only go 3 steps, then serve. The Nitaufnahme of the university hospital found that I had 2-fold pulmonary embolism. 10 days hospital, now I do not want to take any more HomronTablketten, have enough of dfem stuff, I go leiuber every 4 months in the first time to the ultrasound / mammography. Chemo and radiation has been shut down and now, at the age of 73, I hope for a few nice years with my Moanda, now 5 granddaughter. Greetings to you all at Sanego rapunzel01

After the breast op. chemo and 38 irradiations everything survived. However, the tamoxifen makes me very busy. Since taking 2.5 years ago, I have extreme bones and joint pain, there are still strong hot flashes, so that in medium-heavy work, the water just runs and sleep is completely out of the question. It takes all the strength out of everyone, which of course has an effect on my work (I’m tired fast and powerless)

Yes, we just have to go through it if we want to LIVE. Have been on therapy with Zoladex and Tamox for three years. Diagnosis I got when I was 37 years and my little one just 3.. In three weeks – if everything o.k. is – drops the syringe. Then the Tamox probably 2 years. I did not believe the whole thing with the side effects at first. But it’s really what our doctors say to us – unbelievableI used to say that they should not be so stupid, but meanwhile I do not say anything anymore. I’m currently building such small pillars, such as After stopping the syringe it gets a little better, or something. It’s not all that easy, but when I read the other reports, I’m actually doing relatively well with the whole thing. And by the way: I have noticed that the whole thing is much easier when you see everything a bit looser and all the stress of us 150% wanting women, mothers, housewives and sharp workers! The last holiday in GR was also hot, but I did not care more than any other. At home, I can change clothes three times a day and change sheets every other day – yes, yes, but the main thing is that we work! And then the rest in a nutshell: Reduction of vision – Doc says it can not be that way – in my opinion, I am as blind as a eagle-owl, but then there will probably be other reasons. Vaginal dryness nd libido loss – whether the relationship will survive that will turn out. Bone pain I had at the beginning of Theraüoe. by now, but relatively rare, I’m definitely not as resilient as before and now try to implement a humorous and bearable level for me. My goal is actually only to experience the 20th birthday of my child. Best regards and all the best from Tyrol.

    Tamoxifen for Breast-op

I took tamoxifen for a maximum of 4 months. After joining the Society for Biolog. K-Abwehr in Heidelberg, I decided to go for a diet. I still have hot flashes, my period has also disappeared. Presumably, some of my mood lows on the tamoxifen account. If you want to do research in this direction, you might want to consider using Jane Plant etc. to avoid dairy products (containing hormones as pregnant cows are milked). If one already has tumor markers in the blood, one can let the success of this modified Budwig diet, at the decrease of the tumor markers control. It works, if you do not use dairy products consistently, in such different tumors as the Medulloblaston, the dangerous small cerebral tumor of the child, colon cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer and you need as I have tried even no antihormone treatment for women with breast cancer and for Men with prostate cancer is so distressing.

    Tamoxifen for Breast-op

Hello, dear Mit affected, I had in July 2013 because of a small (2 cm), but highly invasive tumor, a breast cancer op (BET) followed by radiotherapy and then take, so for almost 3 1/2 years, Tamoxifen. At first skeptical, because I had read from many sufferers about bad side effects, but also with some hope. to avoid such a recurrence. Conclusion (as far as you can tell after this time): Tamoxifen caused in me – with the exception of slight hair loss – no side effects. Therefore, on medical advice the drug should not be discontinued after 5 years, as originally planned. In the US, it is obviously recommended from the beginning to a longer intake. I agree! Because of my experience my advice therefore to all concerned: – Approach without prejudice to the treatment! – Believe in the treatment success! – Resume your normal life and leisure activities as soon as possible (or look for new, physically non-strenuous hobbies). All good wishes to all Mit affected! Margot

    Tamoxifen for Ormond

Tamoxifen in Ormond disease is THE solution! The treatment was 4 months with 40mg of prednisolone (cortisone), which made me TOTAL ready. Depression, impotence, and absolute weakness … My testosterone level was at the level of a 12-year-old boy before puberty, and I had extreme bone pain. At my insistence, I persuaded a family doctor to try Tamoxifen. After 4 months of tamoxifen, the side effects are: constant cold feet, infection with E-Coli bacteria, and occasional headache with tinnitus. The positive side effects: Testosterone is back in the upper normal range, frequent erections (which were completely gone under prednisolone), have fun again! An MRI showed the efficacy of tamoxifen, and the inflammatory levels were again halfway OK. I can only advise every MAN with Ormond’s disease to try TAMOXIFEN because the side effects compared to cortisone and azathioprine are ONE JOKE !!! I do not want to conceal the slightly increased heart attack and stroke risk, but that also exists with cortisone. For women, tamoxifen is of course hell, because the estrogens are blocked, but a blessing for men. I hope I could help somebody to get rid of the cortisone! Do not forget: Stay persistent when you ask for a switch to TAMOXIFEN, because there is no standard treatment for Ormond’s disease, and many doctors dare not try! PS: In the beginning (about 4 weeks), the pain became stronger, but apparently only underlines the effectiveness. Get well !

Take tamoxifen because of a modified form of Ormond’s disease (fibrosis of the main artery lumbar). The tissue has gone from 6 to 5 CM after one year. Side effects only slight shivering. Previous weight gain by cortisone I meanwhile (after two pleurodesis that are related to the fibrosis) by sport and a little modified diet. Otherwise, I can not notice any side effect. Ingestion is 1-0-1 20 mg.

Zometa: at the first application for 3 days heavy body aches, chills, general malaise, a few days or weeks later changing complaints to bones and joints, which disappeared after 14 days again. Tip: Zometa is routinely added to 100 ml of solution within 15 minutes. For me, the side effects were significantly less after I was given the 500 ml infusion over 1.5 hours. Tamoxifen: hot flashes, hair grows only very slightly, weight gain despite permanent diet (started only after 1 year) Zoladex: as well (I can not distinguish which side effects of which drug come, since I get both at the same time)
