About Symbicort

Budesonide has anti-inflammatory and therefore decongestant on the mucous membranes of the bronchi. Therefore, it is used as an inhalant aerosol, especially for long-term therapy in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases such as COPD.

What is the purpose of this ingredient?

  • Treat complaints of respiratory diseases
  • Alleviate symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
  • Reduce symptoms of chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma and COPD
  • Relieve symptoms of runny nose and sinusitis
  • treat allergy and hay fever

This is how Budesonid works

Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of budesonide.
Please also read the information on the drug groups glucocorticoids, anti-inflammatory drugs, antiasthmatics, to which the active ingredient budesonide belongs.

Applications of the active substance budesonide

Budesonide has anti-inflammatory and therefore decongestant on the mucous membranes of the bronchi. Therefore, it is used as an inhalant aerosol especially for long-term therapy in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases such as COPD.

As a nasal spray, the active ingredient causes the nasal mucosa to decongest and reduces secretion in cases of runny nose and sinusitis or hay fever, if they are caused by an allergy. In addition, nasal breathing in existing polyps can be significantly improved by budesonide.

Because of its anti-inflammatory effect, budesonide can also be used as a tablet, suppository or so-called rectal foam for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

For the following application areas of Budesonid , in-depth information is available:

    • asthma
    • COPD
    • chronic bronchitis
    • chronic inflammatory bowel disease
    • allergy

Cold, sinusitis

Action of budesonide

The active substance budesonide is a potent glucocorticoid. Budesonide is absorbed and metabolized very quickly at the place of application. Therefore, almost exclusively local effects and side effects occur. In particular on the lungs and on the bronchial system and on the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, it develops all the characteristics typical for this group of active substances, such as inhibition of inflammation, reduction of mucus production and water retention as well as reduction of allergic reactions.

The active substance budesonide is taken up in the cell and bound to a receptor. Thus, the formation (biosynthesis) of certain proteins is initiated, which reduce the formation of inflammatory substances. The full therapeutic effect therefore occurs with a delay. Budesonide is therefore not suitable for the treatment of acute respiratory distress in an asthma attack. However, due to its long-lasting anti-inflammatory effect, it is widely used to treat respiratory diseases such as bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and COPD. Because the active ingredient causes the mucous membranes in the bronchial area to decongest and the narrowed airways are widened. In addition, the formation of bronchial mucus is reduced and its toughness is reduced and the bronchial muscles are relaxed.

Due to its decongestant effect, budesonide can also be used in the form of nasal sprays for the nasal congestion associated with allergic rhinitis. Again, the drug reduces the formation of secretions and thus improves nasal breathing.

Its strong anti-inflammatory action also distinguishes the drug for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Budesonide inhibits inflammatory processes in the intestinal mucosa in the form of a rectal foam. The exact mechanism of action is not yet fully understood. It only seems certain that budesonide is purely local in this application form. Corresponding tablets have an enteric coating that protects them from the digestive juices after ingestion into the colon. After dissolving this coating, the digestive juices form a tough gel with the coating. As a result, budesonide is slowly distributed throughout the colon, where it can have a specific local effect.

    Symbicort for Asthma

Yesterday I went to see the doctor, decartin, but I have to take it, according to the doctor, despite side effects … My asthma has got worse because of the pneumonia, everything has to be regulated again. Nevertheless, I would like to describe the side effects that occur with me: Decortin triggers a great inner turmoil with me, totally over-excited, shaking hands, euphoric .. the worst part is: I could not sleep for 4 nights, hardly tigered here the apartment, last night from 3:00 clock I slept the first time – probably exhaustion (above all, I’m still sick). I am glad that I am already at only 1 tablet a day .. I am sneaking out, still 10 days – hopefully it was then. I’ve had Decortin about a year ago for the same reason, and the effect seems to me stronger this time, possibly because I have to double my asthma spray at the same time, but first I have to ask the doctor. In general, the doctor said yesterday, the side effects as I describe them are typical and well-known. The benefit is more important in this case.

    Symbicort for Copd

The drug is relatively well tolerated. Slime, hoarseness and cough are much less present than other cortisone-containing asthma remedies. With prolonged use, however, it comes in this, as with other budesonide-containing agents, often without the patient still sees the context, to steady, considerable weight gain.

    Symbicort for Asthma

For 2 years I take symbicort and it is hardly possible to lose weight or to keep the weight – on the contrary I have increased in the 2 years almost 20 kg and can not get rid of them !! It is hardly possible to do sport, because my pulse is already at rest in 110 and at low load already increases to 160 (and shortness of breath is added). We are now trying a new drug, which should prevent the increase of the pulse, so that at least sport is possible.

    Symbicort for Bronchitis (chronic)

Since I have had chronic bronchitis for a long time and tried some medications, my doctor has prescribed me Symbicort. I must say, since I should not use it consistently, but only when I feel breathless, it helps quite quickly, within a few minutes. However, it puts me so out of action that driving under an hour’s waiting is unthinkable. Symbicort triggers me extreme muscle coordination disorders, my fine motor skills are almost completely exhausted and it requires extreme concentration still get everything reasonably. In addition, I have hand shaking, increased heart rate and Pulses of Symbicort, all of these side effects occur with me, however, only shortly after ingestion, and begin slowly after 15 minutes, until after about one hour, no more of the side effects , At first, my pulse usually normalizes and my heart stops racing again, usually the part is over after 15-20 minutes, with the fine motor skills and the shaking of the hands it takes a bit longer. I have not been able to find any other side effects, but the fine motoring that sets it aside is extremely unpleasant.

With me I could detect some side effects: – Scratches in the throat (frog in the neck) – heart tears (for a certain time after taking) – fidgety (somehow nervous) – dizziness (to black in front of eyes) – nausea (slight nausea) – Infection in the mouth and throat area (probably a bit under-rinsed, but I recommend using Betadine for rinsing since I take this to rinse the mouth). Cold sweat breakouts (usually after I’ve gotten black)

    Symbicort for Bronchitis (chronic)

Since I have read the article of the patient’s record 3797, I would like to comment on the following: I take the drug only shortly before going to bed and have correspondingly no problems either with heartbeats, shaky hands and (or) with most of the night occurring vipen while breathing. All I can say is that the drug has had a fantastic effect on me since taking this. Have also found that after the suspension of the application about 2 – 3 months rest with the bronchi. If it starts slowly then I take the drug again about half a year and everything is OK. Side effects 0.
