About Symbicort

Budesonide has anti-inflammatory and therefore decongestant on the mucous membranes of the bronchi. Therefore, it is used as an inhalant aerosol, especially for long-term therapy in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases such as COPD.

What is the purpose of this ingredient?

  • Treat complaints of respiratory diseases
  • Alleviate symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
  • Reduce symptoms of chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma and COPD
  • Relieve symptoms of runny nose and sinusitis
  • treat allergy and hay fever

This is how Budesonid works

Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of budesonide.
Please also read the information on the drug groups glucocorticoids, anti-inflammatory drugs, antiasthmatics, to which the active ingredient budesonide belongs.

Applications of the active substance budesonide

Budesonide has anti-inflammatory and therefore decongestant on the mucous membranes of the bronchi. Therefore, it is used as an inhalant aerosol especially for long-term therapy in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases such as COPD.

As a nasal spray, the active ingredient causes the nasal mucosa to decongest and reduces secretion in cases of runny nose and sinusitis or hay fever, if they are caused by an allergy. In addition, nasal breathing in existing polyps can be significantly improved by budesonide.

Because of its anti-inflammatory effect, budesonide can also be used as a tablet, suppository or so-called rectal foam for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

For the following application areas of Budesonid , in-depth information is available:

    • asthma
    • COPD
    • chronic bronchitis
    • chronic inflammatory bowel disease
    • allergy

Cold, sinusitis

Action of budesonide

The active substance budesonide is a potent glucocorticoid. Budesonide is absorbed and metabolized very quickly at the place of application. Therefore, almost exclusively local effects and side effects occur. In particular on the lungs and on the bronchial system and on the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, it develops all the characteristics typical for this group of active substances, such as inhibition of inflammation, reduction of mucus production and water retention as well as reduction of allergic reactions.

The active substance budesonide is taken up in the cell and bound to a receptor. Thus, the formation (biosynthesis) of certain proteins is initiated, which reduce the formation of inflammatory substances. The full therapeutic effect therefore occurs with a delay. Budesonide is therefore not suitable for the treatment of acute respiratory distress in an asthma attack. However, due to its long-lasting anti-inflammatory effect, it is widely used to treat respiratory diseases such as bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and COPD. Because the active ingredient causes the mucous membranes in the bronchial area to decongest and the narrowed airways are widened. In addition, the formation of bronchial mucus is reduced and its toughness is reduced and the bronchial muscles are relaxed.

Due to its decongestant effect, budesonide can also be used in the form of nasal sprays for the nasal congestion associated with allergic rhinitis. Again, the drug reduces the formation of secretions and thus improves nasal breathing.

Its strong anti-inflammatory action also distinguishes the drug for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Budesonide inhibits inflammatory processes in the intestinal mucosa in the form of a rectal foam. The exact mechanism of action is not yet fully understood. It only seems certain that budesonide is purely local in this application form. Corresponding tablets have an enteric coating that protects them from the digestive juices after ingestion into the colon. After dissolving this coating, the digestive juices form a tough gel with the coating. As a result, budesonide is slowly distributed throughout the colon, where it can have a specific local effect.

    Symbicort for Asthma

After 3 days of administration, the following side effects occurred, which have not subsided so far (2 weeks): – mood swings (from elated elation to dejection and aggression) – tiredness (occurs about 2 hours after ingestion) – sleep disorders (stage sleep, about every 1 -1.5 h awake) – visual disturbance (only a brief blurring, may also be related to fatigue) – dry mouth while talking The side effects occur during the day always at the same time and therefore you can handle it well. The first days are very exhausting for the patient and the partner, because both are initially overwhelmed because of the abrupt change in character. On the positive side, it has been almost completely suppressed since taking the cough and the respiratory symptoms have been markedly reduced for about 6-8 hours, depending on the weather. Dosage: 2 doses daily via Turbohaler

Take Symbicort for about 4 years each spring for about 2-3 months (1 x morning and evening). The otherwise occurring breathing difficulties are almost completely avoided by the intake. During the time of taking Symbicort experience regularly extreme dysphagia. Next I observe dry mouth and increased spasms in the feet.

Take BERODUAL as an emergency medication for many years with no problems and side effects. Helps mostly after two strokes and a short rest period. I am currently taking 1 x Spiriva, 2 x Symbicort and distributing it throughout the day if necessary Berodual. Found and confirmed by dentist that the drugs attack the tooth surface and increased calculus is there. Always dry mouth and rough voice! During the day almost without problems – at night I often wake up at about 2 o’clock – and I just have to sit down for 10-30 minutes somewhere and abhusten small amounts of mucus, and drink something and keep calm! Sometimes I wonder – is that a rumor ?? at COPD uä. – how far the above Drug affect the sex life, as there is great daily craving, but not lived out. Also, assume that someday and somewhere in a panic attack I’ll get stuck without enough air and stand at the door of Peter, because the drugs mentioned will no longer work. Mauss ask my medicine man – if oxygen (but who has that at home) would not be more effective …

    Symbicort for Asthma

Years ago I read that the asthma spray should basically cause muscle pain. I reportedly have Fibromyalgia (FMS). For some time now, I have so much muscle pain (like a constant strong sore muscles in the whole body), that I can hardly move after prolonged sitting. When I get up in the morning, I walk like a 90-year-old (almost 50). My muscles have also become powerless, after exercise (twice a week) I have even more pain. I took other sprays before Symbicort and got palpitations and heart rhythm disorders. I do not have this from Symbicort. I always tolerated it well, but I come here so some considerations wg. the strong muscle complaints.

    Side effects: Muscle aches

    Symbicort for Copd

I have COPD and emphysema and had acute respiratory problems several times a day. Each time, therefore, I used Berodual, Cortisone 20 mg daily. Because of the significant side effects of cortisone, but also the frequent Beroduals use, Symbicort was screwed me. Since then, I no longer need cortisone and the side effects subsided, disappeared almost completely. I need Berodual much less often. Side effects: worse vision and headaches since about twice a week.

    Side effects: Blurred vision; Headache

    Symbicort for Asthma

I used Symbicort twice a shorter time. I noticed the most severe side effect with this drug the second time by chance. The shaky, tingling sensation in my hands and arms has always disturbed and disturbed me. The first time, however, I had a serious infection at the same time and was anyway something wrong. The second attempt with Symbicort, however, I was pretty good before. Therefore, the difference was only then to recognize. At some point when I felt very bad on a weekend, I dropped it off. But also mainly because I could not stand the shaky feeling any longer. Then I also noticed that my mood was suddenly better again. I had cried this weekend almost only what I did not know about me. It was really scary. In retrospect, I was emotionally quite wrong at the first application but I just pushed that on the infection. I was very scared that such a spray can also have such side effects. Of course it is in the leaflet but it is always said that they only act locally, etc. And doctors are not made aware of it.

    Symbicort for Depression; Asthma

Citalopram I take now for 2 years. Mainly because of depression, robbery in store, burn out. Had no other option. Was not even advised by my first doctor. Drug has since been increased to 60mg. Since then I had only sleep disturbances, extreme hot flashes and began to increase extremely fast in a very short time. Am then reduced to 40mg at my request. But do not get away from this eternal hunger, eating sensations without getting full. Wanted to participate in the nutrition program with Barmer sports, but would be rejected with this drug, as it has a negative effect on the program. Maybe there is somebody in this universe who can give a good experience tip to a beetle who is no longer comfortable in his skin ???

The drug helps within minutes. Other cortisone inhalers (e.g., Alvesco) have not helped. The side effects are very disturbing. The trembling of the hands and the depressing feeling of weakness (hands hardly support themselves – typing on the keyboard alone requires a lot of effort) affects me a lot. I can tolerate the increased heart rate and the increase in blood pressure. Hoarseness and loss of voice disturb me. Overall, I can recommend the drug because of its good efficacy, as it saves you from taking systemic cortisone tablets. If the symptoms are mild (so that 1 to a maximum of 2 Hub Symbicort per day is sufficient), I recommend in my experience tablets Singulair, I tolerate much better. I wish you good health 🙂

In my asthma, the drug has helped very well. The only problem was that over time my mouth was burning and my voice was hotter. I now have another inhaler that has exactly the same ingredients but does not burn in your mouth and does not make you hotter.

    Symbicort for Asthma

In November 07, my family doctor prescribed Symbicort after I had a nightly asthma attack (seriously ill in the hospital due to mental stress). As a preventive measure, I took 1 hub in the morning or 2 in the morning every morning. I was able to detect side effects: palpitations, restlessness, high pulse, muscle tremors, bruising, frog in the throat, itchy skin, dizziness, occasional headaches, insomnia, occasional depression, weight gain. A week ago I discontinued Symbicort because the side effects got worse and worse. Blood pressure and heart rate now gradually settle on a normal, the frog is gone and the other Bescherden decay slowly. Only the nocturnal palpitations and the overweight is still there, but I hope that I am going to leave soon.

If the dosage is too high (Symbicort 320): tremor, palpitations, nausea, dizziness Symbicort 160 is excellent. However, one must execute the application correctly, so that the effect can develop fully.
