About Sotalol

Sotalol is used in various forms of cardiac arrhythmias. Targeted use is the treatment of too rapid a heartbeat (tachycardia), if this disorder originates from the atria (supraventricular tachycardia) or from the ventricles (ventricular tachycardia). The active substance is also suitable for the prevention of cardiac arrhythmias following an electric shock (cardioversion).

Due to insufficient studies, the efficacy of sotalol in the following diseases is not confirmed:

  • Heart stumbling through cardiac glycoside hypersensitivity
  • Load high-pressure
  • Circulatory disorders or constriction of the coronary arteries.
  • heart failure
  • Herzenge (angina pectoris)
  • Pre- and post-treatment of myocardial infarction
  • hyperthyroidism
  • Tendency to permanent palpitations (hyperkinetic heart syndrome).

The same applies to the use of sotalol in nervous disorders, nervous heart complaints, tension, agitation, allergic hypersensitivity or so-called histamine headache, metabolic disorders or to shield the influence of the stress hormone epinephrine > Sotalol can be given either in tablet form for oral use or with a syringe.

What is the purpose of this ingredient?

  • Lower heart rate

Effect of Sotalol

Sotalol belongs to the group of antiarrhythmics and beta-blockers. The active ingredient acts on various forms of cardiac arrhythmias. As a result, under certain circumstances too fast a heartbeat can be regulated.

Sotalol makes the heart slower and smoother. The drug blocks the so-called beta-receptors at the heart and the potassium channels. Thus, the drug belongs to the class II and III antiarrhythmics.

Because sotalol works not only on the heart but all beta receptors, it can cause unwanted side effects such as bronchoconstriction.

Solatol can be taken in tablet form. The effect occurs two to three hours after ingestion. It lasts around 24 hours. The substance is not converted by the body, but almost completely excreted through the kidneys.

    Sotalol for Atrial fibrillation

I have been taking 2x 80mg Sotalol for atrial fibrillation for about 8 months. So far I have not had a longer episode. Occasionally I have a short burst of flicker, but it is interrupted immediately. However, when I run a little longer, I have had a lot of dizziness and the feeling that I am completely muddy in my head and fall over immediately. I do not know, if that is the cycle or if I am hyping or ..? Does anyone have any experience or an idea? A doctor told me that Sotalol should not be given because of its high side effect potential ???? !! After I changed the doctor I was now prescribed Bisobeta 5mg. Have now read some reviews and am quite unsure if I should take that. Does anyone have a tip for me? Amira 46
