About Seroquel

Quetiapine is used for the treatment of psychosis, such as those associated with schizophrenia or a manic disease (mania).

What is the purpose of this ingredient?

  • Block dopamine and serotonin receptors in the central nervous system
  • Relieve symptoms of schizophrenia
  • treat psychosis
  • Relieve depression
  • Counteract anxiety and excitement.

This is how Quetiapin works

Below you will learn more about the applications and the mode of action of quetiapine.
Please also read the information on the drug group neuroleptics,
to which the active ingredient quetiapine belongs.

Areas of application of the active substance quetiapine

Quetiapine is used for the treatment of psychosis, such as those associated with schizophrenia or a manic disease (mania).

The active ingredient relieves depression, agitation and anxiety disorders. But he can not completely prevent the onset of manic or depressive phases.

Quetiapine is mostly given in the form of tablets. The dosage must be adjusted individually according to the patient’s complaints, but should always be as low as possible.

For the following application areas of Quetiapin , in-depth information is available:

  • depression
  • psychosis

Mode of action of quetiapine

Psychoactive drugs (neuroleptics) such as quetiapine exert their effect by blocking receptors for the messenger substance dopamine in the central nervous system. In this way they relieve arousal and anxiety as well as delusions.

As an atypical neuroleptic, quetiapine also occupies binding sites for the messenger serotonin. This reduces the apathy of the sick, reduces depression, improves memory and improves the ability to concentrate.

Because quetiapine in the nervous system also binds to adrenaline and norepinephrine, it sometimes causes unwanted effects such as drowsiness and low blood pressure.

Seroquel for Bipolar disorder; Sleep disorders; Depression

Seroquel prolong (300mg) has given me a fairly balanced mood, but my liver values have deteriorated so much that my doctor has recommended immediate discontinuation. The subsequent withdrawal / withdrawal symptoms were however fierce. With nausea to vomiting, roller coaster ride in the brain (strong dizziness), shivering and freezing I spent about a week on the sofa, barely able to get up and eat or drink something, even water I vomited. The intake was unproblematic, except now and then very restless legs, but the discontinuation was the horror. Because of sleep disorders, a smaller dose (50 or 100mg) was again used, but discontinued due to inefficiency after some time. Here, too, but only three or four days but still violent dizziness associated with equally severe nausea with vomiting and tremendous weakness. Slow down is recommended!

    Seroquel for Borderline; Depression

Extreme tiredness. Take 100mg Seroquel to the night and get up before 11:00 the next day only with difficulty from the bed. Otherwise, I still have a headache (very rarely had a headache before) and runny nose (started pretty well when I started using Seroquel – and still stops). Mild visual disturbances and dizziness only sometimes occur.

    Side effects: Headache; Dizziness; Fatigue

    Seroquel for Psychosis

Directly at the beginning of the treatment after approx. 1h extreme tiredness with heavy lead and tachycardia. The tachycardia has improved, the other not. Then a tingling sensation comes over me as if I get goose bumps and that even if I lie in the warm tub. For a few weeks, extreme cardiac arrhythmias have been added to the excitement. ECG was ok. For about a week, an extreme feeling of illness, pressure on my chest and headache, but this is not due to flu. Whether there is a connection with Seroquel still has to be clarified.

    Seroquel for Psychosis

Dry mouth, tiredness / especially in the morning, dizziness, from time to time headache, especially at higher dose makes you feel empty, soft … bad Deposits after prolonged use. Especially suitable for psychotic properties during psychosis. The psychotic properties are relatively well shortly after taking. To prevent relapses of psychosis or depression, this drug must be taken for at least 1 year in a specific dose. To quickly saturate in acute phases, this drug is initially applied in a very high dose. This can be up to 1200 mg and higher. Especially for patients who have had bad experience with side effects with antidepressants, this drug is the first choice. Prolong retard drug consists of a retarded, so later-onset effect. The simple Seroquel releases its effect directly and is therefore particularly well-suited for fast application in case of attacks. If the drug is simply discontinued after prolonged use, there are strong signs of withdrawal up to the relapse of a pychosis. The dose should then not be increased back to the original dose, but should be increased slightly with only 50 mg normal Seroquel.

    Seroquel for Psychosis; Depression

Previously taken Risperdal that I had not tolerated at all. Extreme restlessness, tachycardia, falling asleep hands, etc. Seroquel is now considerably more bearable despite some side effects. Seroquel: At the beginning of the treatment after 1-2 hours extreme tiredness, heavy lead and tachycardia. After a few weeks to months improvement of the extreme fatigue and the leaden heaviness. Heartases and drop in blood pressure still occur intermittently. Temporary dizziness, tiredness and heaviness that you can still endure, return after about 3 hours. After taking longer fatigue / slackness, sleep needed. This will be better after months / years. At dose reduction z. Zt. 200mg with side effects at least from noon satisfied until you have to take it back in the evening / at night. Problem such as short-term memory, forgetfulness. Concentration even after previous intake OK, but aircraft mechanic or doctor I would like to be because of the forgetfulness not straight. After getting used to, now after 2 years I notice the initial side effects like extreme tiredness, leaden heaviness only now and then. However, existing problems / side effects: weight gain within 2 years 10kg; increased blood lipids; higher liver values despite rarely to no beer; dry mouth after ingestion; temporary drop in blood pressure / dizziness approx. 1 hour after ingestion and disappears after some time; take more water at night after taking it, doctor says drug could weaken the heart and thereby nocturia; as in any neuroleptics frequent sexual discomfort / dysfunction and in personality / behavior after taking somehow slowed down and more serious; As with others also occasionally shivering on the feet and often 2 pairs of socks necessary: So neuroleptics certainly do not depend and side effects are hopefully reversible; The side effects are stressful but for me more positive than with first Risperdal. The life expectancy and zest for life should be very limited by neuroleptics. It does not help that the condition without is not foreseen and then the life expectancy could be even lower.

take it now for about 15 weeks, in the morning and evening ever 200mg. Side effects are already clearly noticeable, such as circulatory problems, as a result of SChwindel, extreme tiredness (which, however, disappeared after a good 2 hours), dry mouth and with ertsmaliger ingestion causes Seroquel also tachycardia. This side effect, however, diminishes after about 3-4 weeks. Also in other patients I noticed the trembling of the hands. Whether it helps with my disorder is now ide question !? Anything is better for me with the breath control compulsion than it was in October 2006.

But somehow it is a nice feeling, because the bad thoughts are turned off. I am satisfied with the medication and will take it for some time. Note: I take Seroquel only at night .. can sleep very well now.

The Seroquel is and remains the only drug that I tolerate completely side effect free and also has also struck. At times I was set to 400mg, now it is 300mg. I am thus more balanced and the irrational thoughts or perceptions have become much smaller. At the beginning and at the high dose, I was a little tired after taking the morning tablet, but not so that u200b u200bcaused me.

Unfortunately, seroquel has many undesirable side effects. on the one hand, an increase in weight. Half an hour after taking a feeling of drunkenness. You can not walk or speak properly anymore, you need a lot of sleep. it is like a noise. The drug attacks the liver very, therefore it must be stehts investigated. Unfortunately, a liver cancer can be achieved with it. seroquel makes abhämgig and after a missing ingestion occurs entzugserscheinungen.seroquel with me directed even hormonal damage to, get hair growth on face, on the stomach and the pride I have as well. I advise of this drug from absolutely, I had known what hires all this I would not have taken it. my body is botched as it were by the drug. ATTENTION: the drug is not researched for a long timeI add that you can also get heart racing from the seroquel after taking. and now after 3 years of taking it was found that I can now get no more children. However, the doctors are not clear whether it could work again after discontinuation.

So I can not agree with the previous entry. Seroquel does NOT (!) Depend on (which has been confirmed to me by several doctors & therapists), I discontinued the drug from morning to morning and had no problems whatsoever. The only side effects I had while taking it were a dry mouth and about 1 hour after taking a leaky fatigue, so it is best to take Seroquel in the evening. But otherwise it is a risk and side effect medicament. I can not imagine that the entire health problems of the woman of the first Seroquel entry should come only from this Medikamt.

    Side effects: Mouth dryness; Fatigue
