Action of Risperidone

Neuroleptics such as risperidone exert their effect by blocking receptors for the neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain. As a result, psychotic disorders such as hallucinations and delusions can be alleviated.

In addition to dopamine receptors, risperidone also occupies binding sites for the neurotransmitters serotonin, norepinephrine and epinephrine. This improves the ability to self-control. Aggressive behavior is reduced, the ability to concentrate is improved and severe depression can be alleviated.

    Risperdal for Psychosis

At the beginning of the treatment, 4 mg of muscle twitching occurred. I did not have to sweat anymore. The perception disorders were corrected. The period was gone. I had concentration problems, disturbances in memory and could no longer show any feelings. I suffered from drive and disinterest. After I was adjusted to 0.5 mg, the menstruation also started again and I was back in life again. But was also set to Abilify (which increase drive) simultaneously.

    Risperdal for Psychosis

For 1.5 years I take Risperdal after a schizoaffective psychosis. At the moment I take 2 mg. So far, I’ve had two minor relapses, and I had to increase the dose to 4 mg. I did not get into an acute crisis anymore. However, I already complain about a significant loss of quality of life. So the emotional life is very limited. I am now extremely uncreative, I am not very talkative and feel somehow slowed down and driveless. My libido suffers too much. These side effects also occur at a lower dose. I also gained 8 kg.
