This is how Infliximab works

Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of infliximab.
Please also read the information on the drug classes immune boosting and debilitating agents, anti-inflammatories, monoclonal antibodies, to which the active ingredient infliximab belongs.

Areas of application of the active ingredient infliximab

Infliximab is used in patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases whose inflammations have responded inadequately to conventional treatments.

The drug is also used in inflammatory bowel disease. For Crohn’s disease from a patient’s age of six years, if the course despite the usual treatment is difficult and complicated. Also, ulcerative colitis can be treated with infliximab if other therapies were ineffective.

Infliximab also has an anti-inflammatory effect on ankylosing spondylitis and is used when other antirheumatics have not worked well.

Infliximab is also used in psoriasis with and without joint inflammation, if, despite treatment, the condition has not been sufficiently improved or other therapies can not be performed.

For the following application areas of Infliximab , in-depth information is available:

  • Psoriasis
  • inflammatory rheumatic diseases
  • chronic inflammatory bowel disease
  • inflammation

Effect of Infliximab

Infliximab belongs to the group of genetically engineered immunological antibodies. The active ingredient acts against the tumor necrosis factor TNF alpha (TNF alpha antagonist). TNF alpha is an endogenous substance that produces the immune system for the destruction of foreign cells and proteins. In some diseases, such as Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, but also endogenous cells are destroyed by TNF alpha. This cell-destroying effect is blocked by the active ingredient.

Together with interleukin, TNF alpha plays a major role in the activation of phagocytes (macrophages) and certain white blood cells (lymphocytes). These are necessary for the defense reaction in case of inflammation.

The active ingredient binds to TNF alpha and together forms a stable antibody complex. The disadvantage is that this process also weakens the body’s defense reaction against infections and cancer cells.

    Remicade for Morbus crohn

I have been getting a remicade every 8 weeks for about 2 years. I have MC with fistula formations. The fistulas are partially healed. But there are also new fistula walks occurred. Side effects from the infusion, except something dry facial skin, I do not have. Am again cut on a fistula this week. I am also not sure if the infusion has the desired effect. I also take 10 mg cortisone daily. I am 63 years old and have MC for 40 years. Through a lot of sports, I have the disease pretty much under control.

    Side effects: Skin dryness

I have been taking Remicade for 1.5 years and had an allergic reaction after the second. You should be extra careful because the body forms antibodies. I have very positive results but also side effects such as very dry lips, nose or facial skin fatigue and me is faster really bad (after car rides or Dom rides) that has never been so. sometimes I have strong palpitations in my resting state. my doctor documents everything.

Side effects: Lip drought; Skin dryness; Fatigue

    Remicade for Morbus crohn

Nothing worked for me, so we chose Remicade. It helps very well. Since then eigtl. Had no more thrust. I get it every 6-8 weeks. But also often have stronger side effects, such. extreme body aches up to 2 days after infusion. Dizziness and extreme hair loss. The skin has since become very dry and unclean since then. But that’s all to endure. The pain coming from the MC are worse !!! I am glad that the Remicade strikes so well.

    Remicade for Ulcerative colitis

Never again. Since the first infusion, I feel worse than ever before. I did the second one despite the side effects. Now it’s over. I’ve never seen such a bad drug with these severe side effects. I prefer to suffer from my illness. For me, nothing has changed since the infusions. Everyday life can no longer be mastered. I recommend everyone not to let this stuff turn up as easily as I do from his doctor. He praised it and did not tell me about such reactions. Hopefully, my body will soon recover from this devil stuff.

    Remicade for Morbus crohn

I’m convinced of the drug itself, it keeps its promise. I have been in control of my Crohn’s disease for almost 2 years with this drug. There are side effects, but these are more bearable than the discomfort of the MC.

Side effects: Headache; Increase in weight

    Remicade for Psoriatic arthritis

After more rheumatism, I finally got to Remicade. Every 6 weeks for 2 hours at the drip at the doctor. After getting up, I’m dizzy for a very short time, but immediately goes away .. Then I feel great and without pain. This lasts about 3-4 weeks. Then I’m looking forward to the next drip. I can only recommend, is very expensive but has the least side effects. For me it is the temporary dizziness

    Side effects: Dizziness

    Remicade for Morbus crohn

I have been getting Remicade for almost 2 years now. I’m actually completely satisfied with that. Since then, I have virtually no problems at all. Unfortunately, I suspect that I am getting worse and worse. Get it only every 2 months, now I even have 11 weeks without. However, I felt so bad at the last infusions. I was totally sick and was totally depressed .. Got really bad migraine attacks. I have worse back pain after the infusion and I am getting thicker (have already changed diet and sports I do) and hair loss. But nothing changes. Otherwise, I am free to complain! Unless I have really bad emotional stress.

    Remicade for Psoriasis; Psoriatic arthritis

Remicade: Since all the other drugs did not kill me anymore, I got the infusion with Remicade every 6 weeks now. Nausea and dizziness occur quite a lot on the day of the infusion, which lasts one day. Stupid is that it is totally infectious and the colds take longer to die down and slightly larger if mistaken treatment take (eg, pneumonia). The liver values also increase quite a bit, which I could improve with artichoke extract. The nice thing is that the skin symptoms have completely gone down and that already after the second infusion Methotrexate: I get that to prevent the formation of antibodies against the Remicade and as support for the rheumatic part. Nausea stomach pain weight gain

    Remicade for Morbus crohn

Have now received several infusions. Initially, I hardly noticed any improvement in my situation (I had surgery already) and had severe joint problems. Now my inflammatory values have dropped sharply. I do not have any stinging pain anymore. That’s just a new quality of life.

    Remicade for Ulcerative colitis

I’m new here. To the two drugs mentioned above, I can contribute something to the third but I can not write much because I got it until now once. The cortisone (Prednnisolone) helped me a lot in the beginning then it went down to 10mg each week then was down to 2.5mg. The side effects are not so sparkling I’ve taken a weng to, hair loss, a full moon face and hair wraps Get face. The inflammation was gone, too, according to the lab values I was also very happy about it but I was happy too early after a few weeks, the inflammation came back. To the Azathioprin: it has hit very well in the beginning can not complain to me synonymous net but in the end, this remedy has unfortunately brought nothing synonymous. Take months for this remedy and then it does not even help. But what do you want to do you take it in the hope that helps.

Both medications work, but I’m not without discomfort. My skin is still showing slight signs of psoriasis. My pains are always my companion, sometimes less, sometimes more intense. All in all, I would say the drugs help well, just pain and Stains (small) stop. Life is definitely worth living again !!!

    Remicade for Morbus crohn

For my Crohn’s disease, since October 2008 I have been receiving prednisone intravenously and Remicade as an infusion. I have to go to the hospital for these medications. First, prednisone is injected. After that, I have to wait half an hour before the Remicadeinfusion is attached. The flow time of the infusion is at least 2 hours. Then wait another half hour. So about 4 hours of time currently every 8 weeks. Prednisone: – steroid acne – weight gain – full moon face – diffuse hair loss – susceptibility to infection Side effects Remicade: – fatigue (especially during and shortly after infusion) – susceptibility to infection
