What is the purpose of this ingredient?

  • Inhibit inflammation
  • Reduce rheumatic complaints
  • Prevent joint damage
  • Improve mobility
  • Reduce symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease and prevent complications

This is how Infliximab works

Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of infliximab.
Please also read the information on the drug classes immune boosting and debilitating agents, anti-inflammatories, monoclonal antibodies, to which the active ingredient infliximab belongs.

Areas of application of the active ingredient infliximab

Infliximab is used in patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases whose inflammations have responded inadequately to conventional treatments.

The drug is also used in inflammatory bowel disease. For Crohn’s disease from a patient’s age of six years, if the course despite the usual treatment is difficult and complicated. Also, ulcerative colitis can be treated with infliximab if other therapies were ineffective.

Infliximab also has an anti-inflammatory effect on ankylosing spondylitis and is used when other antirheumatics have not worked well.

Infliximab is also used in psoriasis with and without joint inflammation, if, despite treatment, the condition has not been sufficiently improved or other therapies can not be performed.

For the following application areas of Infliximab , in-depth information is available:

  • Psoriasis
  • inflammatory rheumatic diseases
  • chronic inflammatory bowel disease
  • inflammation

Effect of Infliximab

Infliximab belongs to the group of genetically engineered immunological antibodies. The active ingredient acts against the tumor necrosis factor TNF alpha (TNF alpha antagonist). TNF alpha is an endogenous substance that produces the immune system for the destruction of foreign cells and proteins. In some diseases, such as Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, but also endogenous cells are destroyed by TNF alpha. This cell-destroying effect is blocked by the active ingredient.

Together with interleukin, TNF alpha plays a major role in the activation of phagocytes (macrophages) and certain white blood cells (lymphocytes). These are necessary for the defense reaction in case of inflammation.

The active ingredient binds to TNF alpha and together forms a stable antibody complex. The disadvantage is that this process also weakens the body’s defense reaction against infections and cancer cells.

I got Remicade prescribed by my rheumatologist. I have had psoriasis since the age of 16, at first only the skin was affected, but now many of them are affected, especially the fingers and ankles. With the use of Remicade could quickly be improved, especially the skin. The joints still hurt, but it is a pain that you can endure well.

    Remicade for Ankylosing spondylitis

Hello dear ones, I have been receiving the Remicade infusion for 2 1/2 years and am totally happy that it exists. In the beginning, I was afraid of another medication that could not help, I could not breathe properly in pain and had no more life courage so I read it and read the infusion, one day later I thought I was dreaming because after 15 years without pain I was and am still very happy about it. Especially no side effects and no more pain. The disease I have now for 17 years and now without pain, the best that could happen to me in my life with the disease, the infusionI can only try it out and think positively, because that helps !!!

    Remicade for Morbus crohn

I have Crohn’s disease for 6 1/2 years. He was diagnosed 3 1/2 years ago. Initially, they tried to get the thrusts with Salofalk under control. But they became more and more frequent and violent. In 2007, after the diagnosis began treatment with Imurek. I always tolerated it well, even now; possibly because I only get one third of the usual dose because I metabolize the drug differently. With relapses, I always got prednisone, which usually struck after 3 days, followed by a speedy recovery followed. This year the prednisone did not work anymore. Maybe a resistance has arisen. Since the push did not end, my doctor has prescribed Remicade for me. At first I tolerated it without problems. After the third infusion, a penetrating itch has appeared for the first time. It had itched all over the body like countless mosquito bites. There was nothing to see. This has stopped for about 4 weeks, with the symptoms having decreased over time. After the 4th infusion, I had a nettle rash on my face and décolleté two days later. The spots were deep red and hot. At the same time I felt sick. The same day I received the antiallergic Zetallerg from the doctor. I only took one tablet. Then the rash has slowly subsided. In the third week after the infusion, I was always feeling sick for four days. Not sure if it really comes from Remicade. Since today I have this Ausshhlag again. It is now the fourth week after the infusion. I woke up like that. It itches all day and the head is hot. I took a Zetallerg right in the morning. But that did not help until the evening. It’s important to mention that at the moment I still have Imurek despite Remicade. The Crohn is very quiet since Remicade, toi toi toi …

    Side effects: Itching rash

    Remicade for Morbus crohn

Personally, I’ve been getting Remicade for over 3 years, every 6-8 weeks, depending on how I feel. In itself Remicade works quite well, unfortunately not completely against abscesses and fistulas, still have about 1 time a year because of an operation. About 6 years ago I got a remicade, unfortunately it did not work after almost a year and I was switched to Humira. I also got that for about 2 years before I became immune to it. After a change of doctor and renewed Remicade therapy in maximum dose, I finally came about 3 years ago finally (after 12 years) away from the cortisone. For that I have to do now enormously with my hAut and no one can really say, whether it is a Neurodermitis caused by Remicade or the like. My hair has almost completely failed me and my libido is no longer available. Slowly, I am mentally also very tired, because my body is constantly fighting against new inflammations of the skin, teeth or the like, because the immune system is so down. Normal work is sometimes hardly possible.

    Side effects: Itching; Hair loss

    Remicade for Morbus crohn

My mother (67 years old) has been accompanying this disease for 20 years now, and therefore also our childhood and today’s life. She has become a stoma wearer due to Crohn’s disease. Your disease has been in strong relapses, with your immune system, the skin, ears and nails have reacted very strongly with fungal infections, oozing and rashes. She hears virtually nothing without hearing aids. Now, in decision with my dad, she resorted to the straw Remicade. I also shared this decision in the absolute hope of being able to stop this disease. However, after the 4th infusion we learned that it was calming intestinal inflammation, but our mother has been feeling very poor since the last Remicade infusion. Your immune system is as good as on the ground. She has very little strength to move and only to me crutches or support. The simple walk to the toilet is not possible for her alone. She suffers from shortness of breath, vomiting in the morning, can eat only very small amounts of food. Reacts even after therapy termination 1.5 months ago with rashes, suppurative parotid gland, seizures in the outer extremities, which occur suddenly. Impotence, extremely weakened! Our mother needs since then a 24 h care! She has always been a fighter and has not been beaten by the disease for all these years, but this time we are all afraid that she will not make it! She has lost 15 kg in the last 1.5 months. What annoyed our family so much that a follow-up obligation of those doctors who gave her this therapy is not in the least felt! What can we do? Who knows how we can help our mother?

My husband is already getting the 4Remicade to this day no improvement has occurred. He still has 20 times to toil on. And still has a lot of blood in the Stuhl.Lebensqulität has diminished significantly. It is a very heavy burden for the whole family when you see how the partner suffers. We wish all of us that this disease is better researched My husband is only 55 years old and would like to take a bit to participate in life, currently it is so bad that he is not even 2 hours. without toil. He even sometimes wears diaper pants when we are traveling by car for some time.
