Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of Ofloxacin.
Please also read the information on the drug groups gyrase inhibitors (quinolones), antibiotics, to which the active ingredient ofloxacin belongs.

Areas of application of the active ingredient ofloxacin

Ofloxacin is used in inflammation of the kidney, urinary bladder and urinary tract infections. Also, inflammation of the genitals such as gonorrhea can be treated with this antibiotic.

Furthermore, many respiratory diseases that are due to a bacterial attack can be treated with ofloxacin. These include inflammation of the mouth and throat, middle ear infections, sinusitis, inflammatory cold and other colds. In addition, pneumonia as well as acute bronchitis or chronic bronchitis can be treated.

Ofloxacin is also used in skin infections or soft tissue inflammation. Also with inflammation of the bones as well as with blood poisoning.

Infections in the abdomen and pelvis may also be treated with ofloxacin. Even with bacterial diarrhea it is used therapeutically. Furthermore, ofloxacin can be administered in people with greatly reduced body defenses to protect against intestinal bacterial infections.

As a topical administration form, this substance is available in eye ointment or eye drops. Thus, superficial infections of the eye and the eye appendages can be treated locally. These inflammations include chronic conjunctivitis and corneal inflammation. Corneal ulcers as well as a barley grain can also heal successfully by ofloxacin.

More detailed information is available on the following Ofloxacin application areas:

  • Eye infections caused by bacteria
  • conjunctivitis
  • respiratory diseases with mucus
  • inflammation
  • Inflammation of the oropharynx
  • pneumonia
  • acute bronchitis
  • urinary tract infections
  • osteomyelitis
  • skin infections
  • chronic bronchitis
  • otitis media
  • diarrhea
  • Cold, sinusitis

Effect of Ofloxacin

Ofloxacin is an antibiotic and is one of the second generation gyrase inhibitors. Due to its structure, it penetrates the bacterial cell more quickly and thus has a faster bactericidal effect than norfloxacin or ciprofloxacin.

The risk of side effects in the brain is slightly elevated with this drug. There may be little interaction with (GABA-containing) nerve cells in the brain.

Potential Ofloxacin side effects may include:

i was supposed to take ofloxacin for 7 days, but could not stand the side effects that occurred from day one. the side effects were getting worse. at the beginning: fatigue, drowsiness, heart racing, restlessness. The heartbeat lasted longer and longer, and there were tingling and trembling of the arms and hands. Finally, I got a sun allergy from half an hour sun and could not sleep anymore. on the fifth day of intake nausea and above all pure (groundless?) despair were added (extreme mood swings). I felt like I was going crazy.

I was supposed to take this drug for 10 days in the evening, which I have postponed to the morning after a few days because of sleep disorders (increased heart rate, hot flashes). There were also completely unfounded depressive moods, such as desperation, depression, everything seemed so pointless and bleak. All of these symptoms disappeared immediately after the end of therapy.

    Ofloxacin for Cystitis

severe stomach cramps, nausea, sleep disorders, drowsiness Have stopped after taking the first tablet again and continue the treatment until the weekend again. With hot water bottle and the whole day in bed, the side effects were reasonably bearable. Standing or walking was difficult. I took the drug for fear of an imminent pyelonephritis. About a day after the treatment I was generally better again. Re-urinalysis confirmed the effect of ofloxacin.

    Ofloxacin for Cystitis

I already had in the summer over 8 weeks repeatedly bladder infection. Ofloxacin always helped me. In the summer I took it for 10 days. The bladder infection was gone, but the side effects … * uffz *. I’ll go through it again. 5th and last day, the bladder infection is gone (doctor confirmed hats), but the tablets are real clubs. Unfortunately, I have to work, I would love to go to bed, I feel really weak. Side effects with me: extreme laxity and tiredness. I can hardly concentrate (bad, if you sit in the car for 2.5 hours a day to go to work), I feel sick and somehow not properly sane; o). Eyes exude mucous greenish * bääh * secretion, eye burning. Constipation, although I eat a lot of fiber and drink a lot. A mild headache. I feel like my face has swollen. Have very thick dark circles.

    Side effects: Headache; Malaise; Fatigue

    Ofloxacin for Cystitis

I received Oflox 100 mg Basics for suspected cystitis (the low dosage determined because the urine did not really show any conspicuous findings). I took one tablet for 3 days in the morning and in the evening. The side effects were very low compared to the last antibiotic I got against BE (Cotrim forte with anxiety, abdominal pain and palpitations). After each tablet I felt a bit tired and drowsy for about 1 hour, but there were no other side effects. For mild cystitis so definitely recommended!

    Side effects: Fatigue; Dizziness

I got it prescribed after my nasal congestion due to persistent strep throat. The first night I had panic attacks, but first assigned this to something else. Unfortunately it continued to suffocate to the point of feeling. Dissociative states and great malaise. I have a borderline personality disorder, so I’m more prone to such sensations anyway. I absolutely can not recommend the medication because of these side effects and I do not understand doctors who prescribe psychosomatic drugs without further ado, without explanation.

    Side effects: Malaise

Shooting sparrows with cannons … Due to a feverish cold, I was prescribed Oflox and taken one each at noon and in the evening. The night was not to sleep: tachycardia, malaise, dry mucous membranes and always a metallic taste in the mouth. I did not take it further.

    Ofloxacin for Cystitis

Already after taking the first tablet around noon, I got severe depression and anxiety. I felt the deepest despair and futility to suicidal thoughts. The next day I had severe tension headaches, was weak, dizzy and powerless and got severe stomach and abdominal pain including nausea. All of these NWs scared me so much that I immediately discontinued the medication. My urologist confirmed to me that these NWs are not uncommon in this medicine.

    Side effects: Headache; Depressions; Nausea

am diabetic, on 1-3 days, my sugar was slightly increased by the disease (normal). On the 4th day I was always in the Unterzuckerrung and on the 5th day I would have to eat-eat-so that my sugar is somehow at the normal height. I even took the glucose tablets. Abnormal. Good that it was the last day.

    Ofloxacin for Bacterial infection

Was only a little bit dizzy for the first 2-3 days, sometimes a bit heart palpitations, slept worse. Thereafter, the intake was easy, no problems with the stomach. And that one should avoid the alcohol and the sun, is indeed in the instructions (and is also known in antibiotics). I think if you look right from the start all the side effects that are listed in the leaflet, then you quickly become hysterical. If I know that some discomfort from tablets, I can handle it, especially since it is limited in time.
