Areas of application of the active substance norfloxacin

Norfloxacin is used in inflammation of the kidney and prostate (male prostate) and in urinary tract infections. It is also effective for the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhea. However, studies have shown no efficacy in the treatment of pyelonephritis for the drug taken. Therefore norfloxacin oral products should not be used in this condition.

Bacterial diarrheal diseases like the dysentery can also be treated with this antibiotic.

This substance is also used locally in the form of eye drops for superficial bacterial infections of the eye and its appendages (lids, eyelashes).

For the following application areas of Norfloxacin , in-depth information is available:

  • urinary tract infections
  • Streptococcal infections
  • Eye infections caused by bacteria

Mode of Action of Norfloxacin

Norfloxacin is an antibiotic. It is one of the first gyras inhibitors of the third generation.

This substance binds to topoisomerase II, also called gyrase. This will inhibit it. Topoisomerase II is an enzyme (functional protein). Its job is to bring the bacterial DNA into shape so that it fits into the bacterial cell. To do this, the DNA is folded by the topoisomerase II and spirally twisted. This process is also called supercoiling. After that, the DNA, which is about one millimeter long, fits into the bacterial cell, which is only about 0.1 millimeters in size. The binding of norfloxacin to topoisomerase II triggers several enzymatic reactions. These ultimately lead to cell death of the bacteria.

The spectrum of action kills both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The bactericidal effect is mostly limited to aerobic (oxygen-dependent) bacteria.

    Norfloxacin for Cystitis

In addition to extreme fatigue and merriment, especially a skin irritation on the underside of the foot and in the calf area, and an inflammation of the outer genitals. In addition, it came to muscle pain.

    Norfloxacin for Cystitis

Cystitis after a week despite extensive prophylaxis (2l a day drunk, kept warm, especially on the feet) returned (bacterium: E. coli). However, a more chronic form seems to have developed. About one and a half weeks after treatment, the antibiogram shows resistance to other substances that end in -floxacin. Possibly (to this assumption, however, I lack the skills) has also developed resistance to norfloxacin. Side effects: none (At the time of treatment, my condition was generally quite impaired.)

    Side effects: No side effects

    Norfloxacin for Cystitis

I’ve had recurring cystitis for years. Mostly when I’m feeling emotional stress (anger in relationships, at work, etc). Last year I had to go to hospital for three days because it got me mad in the middle of the night.7 Norfloxacin I always have at home (relatively easy to get abroad in the pharmacy, without a prescription) and I take it right away, after the first symptoms. It is very well tolerated and I have no problem. Only, the effect seems to be letting up a bit lately

    Side effects: No side effects

    Norfloxacin for Urinary tract infection

First, there was an improvement in the intake of the first tablets; At work (4th day of intake) I suddenly felt dizzy, had a feeling of pressure in my head and could not stand anymore, but blood pressure and sugar were normal. Although I would have to take another tablet, but my bladder infection has subsided and I will leave in future the fingers of this antibiotic!

    Side effects: Dizziness

    Norfloxacin for Urinary tract infection

After I received a single dose of another antibiotic in the hospital (well tolerated) and thus after 4 days still had complaints I went to my family doctor. This swears on old means and therefore prescribed me Norfloxacin. Since I wanted to fly a week later on vacation, I took this too. I would rather have informed better! I had severe nausea, muscle pain, fever and I became really depressed. After a few days I was so tired, so that somehow nothing at all went. The next few weeks I had no appetite and I recovered very slowly. Today I still feel tired and limp. That’s why I just googled on the internet. I found a report from the Ärzteblatt after the European Medicines Agency severely restricted the use of this AB, also because of side effects and even deaths from liver failure. My conclusion: I never trust my family doctor again!

    Side effects: Muscle aches; Nausea

    Norfloxacin for Urinary tract infection

Had to take 10 days Norfloxacin because of a urinary tract infection. Suffered very bad, nausea and mental disorders. Thereafter still leucocytes. Had to take the terrible nitrofurantoin with the lethal side effects. Had tingling and pain in the bladder and constant urination. The same thing from cranberry juice. My bladder is hypersensitive because it was irradiated 10 years ago. Cotrim I do not tolerate, get severe diarrhea, that would probably help me. From time to time, get the most severe urinary tract infections, only from cold feet or from friction when riding a bicycle. I’m afraid out of depression.

    Side effects: Nausea

    Norfloxacin for Urinary tract infection

because of a urinary tract infection, I first took two days norfloxacin, hardly any side effects except a slight pressure on the chest. but since I had no complaints when urinating, but rather back pain and blood in the urine my doctor recommended to take instead of norfloxacin now ciprofloxacin, as this also prevents the risk of kidney pancreas. take it now the third day and do not feel well. breathlessness, difficulty in swallowing with a foreign body sensation in the neck, nausea, dizziness, feeling unwell, anxiety, visual disturbances. I’m glad if I can finish the treatment. is really a hammer.

    Side effects: Dizziness; Nausea
