Telmisartan is used to lower blood pressure in non-organ hypertension (so-called essential or primary hypertension).

How Telmisartan Works
Telmisartan belongs to the group of AT1 receptor antagonists. Like all drugs in this group, telmisartan displaces the most potent endocrine disruptor, angiotensin II, from its AT1 receptor binding site. As a result, the blood vessels expand, the blood pressure drops.
In addition, according to new studies, telmisartan also seems to activate special receptors of fat cells in the body. The excitement of these receptors controls the conversion of carbohydrates to fat and increases the sensitivity of fat cells to insulin. Many hypertensive patients also suffer from disorders of blood lipid and blood sugar regulation (the so-called metabolic syndrome). For these patients, telmisartan has the advantage of lowering the sugar and insulin concentrations as well as the triglyceride concentration in the blood, while increasing the level of vascular protective HDL cholesterol.
Telmisartan is generally very well tolerated. Its antihypertensive effect lasts about 24 hours after ingestion. It is almost completely broken down by the liver. In long-term therapy, telmisartan reaches its maximum effect after six to eight weeks.

With interest I read a report published here about side effects when taking micardis plus in the form of Sehstörungen.Leider I can only confirm that. I never had problems with the eyesight. For quite some time now I have seen double pictures with my right eye. The left eye also has only 60% vision. An examination at the ophthalmologist and a CT did not reveal anything serious. The assumption is close that the visual disturbances are triggered by medication. Who has experience and can help.
