Application of the active substance telmisartan

Telmisartan is used to lower blood pressure in non-organ hypertension (so-called essential or primary hypertension).

Furthermore, the active substance serves to prevent further damage to the cardiovascular system in the case of arteriosclerosis, angina pectoris, stroke and arterial circulatory disorders (intermittent claudication) or type 2 diabetes mellitus, if this already causes damage to vessels, kidneys or eyes has led.

How Telmisartan Works

Telmisartan belongs to the group of AT1 receptor antagonists. Like all drugs in this group, telmisartan displaces the most potent endocrine disruptor, angiotensin II, from its AT1 receptor binding site. As a result, the blood vessels expand, the blood pressure drops.

In addition, according to new studies, telmisartan also seems to activate special receptors of fat cells in the body. The excitement of these receptors controls the conversion of carbohydrates to fat and increases the sensitivity of fat cells to insulin. Many hypertensive patients also suffer from disorders of blood lipid and blood sugar regulation (the so-called metabolic syndrome). For these patients, telmisartan has the advantage of lowering the sugar and insulin concentrations as well as the triglyceride concentration in the blood, while increasing the level of vascular protective HDL cholesterol.

Telmisartan is generally very well tolerated. Its antihypertensive effect lasts about 24 hours after ingestion. It is almost completely broken down by the liver. In long-term therapy, telmisartan reaches its maximum effect after six to eight weeks.

    Micardis for High blood pressure

Some time ago, I got red itchy areas on the buttocks and upper body. Meanwhile, my face is also affected. Allergies are excluded from the medical side. The problems also occur in allergen-free locations. Also, the appearance of the symptoms is independent of stress. On the Internet, I have just learned that I’m not alone with my problem.

    Side effects: Allergic skin reaction

Intake for about 1 year. After half a backache, pain increasingly spread to the thighs, the muscles cramped, although I have never had muscle problems with a lot of sports. Cramps were noticeable even at night. Appetite became progressively worse. Pulse was rather high, there were sudden high pulse rates with palpitations and dizziness, all this, although I regularly did a weekly medical massage.

Side effects: Anorexia; Dizziness; Muscle aches

Due to the combination of both medications the blood pressure was really under control with very good values. However, the following side effects have been particularly troublesome: chest pain and muscle pain as well as mild to moderate depression and mental changes. In addition, of course, the gastrointestinal tract suffers, but that will probably be so in all the need to take the permanent medication.

At low dose (20 mg – one-half 40 mg tablet per day) too little effect; after 30 days of consultation with doctor dose increased to 1 tablet per day (40 mg). After increasing the dose, high incidence of cardiac arrhythmia and high pulse rate (resting heart rate over 90 beats per minute), effect still weak

Micardis Plus was prescribed for hypertension. Here they could achieve a decent success. However, the side effects were intolerable. These were in detail: Irritable cough in the still tolerable range Back pain hard on the border with the tolerable range Urinary tract infection in intolerable range. This did not stop even two weeks after discontinuation of the drug.

    Side effects: Cough; Back pain

    Micardis for High blood pressure

With interest I read a report published here about side effects when taking micardis plus in the form of Sehstörungen.Leider I can only confirm that. I never had problems with the eyesight. For quite some time now I have seen double pictures with my right eye. The left eye also has only 60% vision. An examination at the ophthalmologist and a CT did not reveal anything serious. The assumption is close that the visual disturbances are triggered by medication. Who has experience and can help.

    Side effects: Blurred vision

After a long period of application, conjunctival irritation of the eyes, red eyes, is now more pronounced. Only with drops that keep the eyes moist is the condition bearable. Furthermore, a blurred vision is often noted; the eyes fail to sharpen what they have seen. The dose consists of 40mg twice a day.

Side effects: Eye redness; Blurred vision
