Bimatoprost is used to lower the elevated intraocular pressure in adults. An increase in the intraocular pressure occurs, for example, when the channel through which the eye fluid drains is misplaced. This is the case for example with the Green Star (here with the special form of the chronic open angle glaucoma) or also by unexplained causes.
What is the purpose of this ingredient?
- Promote outflow of aqueous humor
- Promote ocular fluid drainage
This is how Bimatoprost works
Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of bimatoprost.

to which the active ingredient bimatoprost belongs.
Application of the active substance bimatoprost
Bimatoprost is used to lower the elevated intraocular pressure in adults. Bimatoprost is used as a single substance as well as in addition to beta-blockers in the form of eye drops.

Mode of action of bimatoprost
Bimatoprost has a chemical similarity to the drug class of prostaglandins. However, it does not belong to them because of its mode of action, as it does not dock at the known binding sites for prostaglandins. Rather, bimatoprost specifically mimics the effects of recently discovered endogenous substances (so-called prostamids) that regulate intraocular pressure.
Bimatoprost lowers intraocular pressure in humans by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor (surrounding the pupil) as well as the fluid of the eyeball. The lowering of the intraocular pressure starts about four hours after the first application and reaches its peak after about eight to twelve hours. The effect lasts for at least 24 hours.
Potential Lumigan side effects may include:

Lumigan for Glaucoma
no side effects
Side effects: No side effects
Lumigan for Iop increase
Earlier treatment with Xalacom. Also with Lumigan so far (4Wochen) no side effects noticed. However, the application is not easy. 1. You can not tell how many drops are still in the vial. 2. The vial is relatively hard, so you either get out too little or almost nothing or come out with too much pressure and the drop then runs over the cheek. Since the price difference is not high, I will ask my ophthalmologist to write me Xalacom again.
Side effects: No side effects
Lumigan for Glaucoma
When using Berodual and Viani, only certain eye drops are acceptable, e.g. Lumigan, but not for example Timohexal although Lumigan is highly incompatible (eye dryness, severe burning and ametropia). Since the application of Viani a significant increase in weight is observed 10-15%. The drug Coltsfoot Dense: Some of the pyrrozilidine alkaloids are said to have hepatotoxic and carcinogenic (carcinogenic) effects. For more than 10 years I have been consuming this tea and can not detect the slightest side effects (regular liver controls, laboratory). The positive effect of coltsfoot is not achieved by any drug in the pharmaceutical industry. Interactions with other remedies are unknown to me.
Lumigan for Glaucoma
Initially, the effect was very good, the intraocular pressure was lowered from 22 to 15/16. But the vision of the left eye has deteriorated significantly (after the cataract operation, vision was much clearer). I have to wear glasses again today. In addition, I have temporarily strong pain in the left eye socket.
