This is how Lorazepam works

Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of Lorazepam.

Applications of the active ingredient Lorazepam

Lorazepam is used for the short-term treatment of acute and chronic anxiety disorders and nervousness associated with psychosis and depression. However, lorazepam is only used if the symptoms can not be sufficiently controlled with the commonly used antidepressants or neuroleptics. Lorazepam can treat only the symptoms here, not the causes of the disease.

In addition, Lorazepam is used for the short-term treatment of sleep disorders such as falling asleep and staying asleep if they significantly impair the quality of life or are also associated with anxiety. In the case of insomnia, the active ingredient should only be administered if a calming effect is also desired during the day.

Lorazepam is also used as a solution for alleviating the symptoms of ongoing epileptic seizures (status epilepticus).

In addition, Lorazepam is used to calm (sedate) patients before diagnostic, as well as before and after surgical procedures.

The active substance belongs to the Benzodiazepinen and may be prescribed only after careful medical benefit-risk-weighing. The duration of treatment should be as short as possible, as the drug quickly makes dependent. Therefore, the treatment, including the gradual withdrawal phase, should not exceed four weeks.

For the following application areas of Lorazepam , in-depth information is available:

Effect of Lorazepam

Lorazepam is one of the medium-acting benzodiazepines. This means that the active ingredient and its main metabolite are halfway out of the body after about 12 to 16 hours.

Lorazepam binds to the receptors specific to this drug group in the brain. The active ingredient thus enhances the inhibitory effect of the messenger GABA on different nerve nodes in the central nervous system (CNS). In this way, Lorazepam tensions, tension and anxiety-calming as well as calming and sleep-inducing. In higher doses, it may also reduce the tendency to epileptic seizures.

Very annoying is a general sedation. Can not be avoided with all these drugs. You become lax, drive-poor, and do not get as much stuff regulated every day as before.

Settling, settling down: falling asleep problems. Take it also wg sleep problems. Otherwise nothing so far, have now reduced 3 days dose, from 1.25 mg per day (half tablet of 2.5) on a fifth tablet, that would be 0.5mg. Plus 1/2 liter of wine, I always take to fall asleep. Now that I have reduced, I am not so lazy a day. Very pleasant. I had breathing problems, shortness of breath, coughing, so I want to stop now. Whether the cough has something to do with Lorazepam, rather not, but you become so lax with Lorazepam. Just lastededed. Because the half-life is so long that it works the next day. Vesuche to stop it altogether or first down further down. With alcohol is not recommended, but I’ve gotten used to it over the years, then the body does not react too extreme somehow. Otherwise, I hardly drink alcohol, only to fall asleep.

    Side effects: Sedation; Withdrawal symptoms

Seroquel: The only relatively unpleasant side effect: Increased appetite = strong, rapid weight gain, which, however, has declined again after discontinuation. Therefore later change back to Venlafaxin.

Very effective, very effective in acute panic situations. Unfortunately very fast habituation with dependency, therefore only use as rescue medication. Already after a short treatment period (only 2 weeks at low dosage) there were unpleasant withdrawal symptoms, such as dizziness, pronounced weakness, increased anxiety, agitation, motoric uncertainties. There may also be memory gaps during the treatment.

    Lorazepam for Grief coping

Hey! When my mother died, a world collapsed for me. I had panic, fear, nervous breakdowns and everything else. To completely panic, I ran to the doctor to get something, no matter what the main thing it stops. I got lorazepam. Unfortunately, I can not say how much I took and when and so on, as that struck me out of my head for more than a week. Deleted, as if it never had the days against. Gradually I got told things that made me freeze because I can remember less than zero. At the funeral I can not say who was there or what else. From this week (seven days) I remember 2 hours, but quaked and very weak. My husband and child went to the other grandma for two days to get the little one out of the stress, I have no idea. If I had not told that, I would not know until today …… Absolute fucking zeug.ich I also believe that I have taken too much, because I was in a severe shock. It was definitely terrible ……

    Side effects: Memory gaps

    Lorazepam for Depression

It helps me very well (anxiety disorder). I have the problem that I can not calm down and certainly not come to other thoughts when the fear is only there. I then had lorazepam prescribed about a month ago and take 2.5 mg, but only when needed and I’m completely satisfied and the thought that I have something that brings me back to the ground quickly is reassuring! Quickly after taking my body feels heavy and I realize that I’m not moving so fast. Before a visit to the dentist, where wisdom teeth were pulled me, I had previously discussed with my family doctor as I can dose the lorazepam or may. Then I took 2.5 mg the night before, slept well and took 5 mg 2 hours before the dentist appointment (that’s how it was discussed with the doctors). I took a companion with me, which turned out to be incredibly smart. I had to carry the stairs into the practice high and from the intervention (local prayers) and generally the whole day I know NOTHING anymore. Conclusion: Lorazepam yes, but with great caution.

    Side effects: Memory gaps; Fatigue

Because I wore Lorazepam. take my sleep disorders, I can complain about the very strong hair loss nothing. I take the drug 1-2hrs. Before going to sleep it works wonderfully liberating with me. I just have to be careful with the intake because I suffer from epilepsy and take Lamotrigine 200mg twice a day. Unfortunately, Lorazepam should make you addicted quickly.

    Lorazepam for Obsessive compulsive disorder

Have taken Lorazepam for a period of five weeks because of a compulsive disorder. At first only irregular, but then more and more often (dependency development). In fact, it helps against the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder, but only as long as you are on it. When you come down they get worse. I also suddenly had to fight with suicidal thoughts. That’s completely alien to me otherwise. I am glad that I do not take it now. Other side effects of Lorazepam: Hair loss (still has not stopped) and itchy rash on the hands.

    Lorazepam for Anxiety disorders; Depression

My Doc took me away from Citalopram and now I’m taking Trevilor for 1 week. For me, the initial side effects were hell !! Restlessness, panic attacks, perspiration, trembling, cramps, nausea, stomach ache, no appetite, restless legs, anxiety attacks, complete insomnia, etc .. Say all that is to be fought once came with power instead of disappearing !! The Doc thinks that unfortunately comes in the early days. To bridge this I get now Lorazepam for about 4 weeks, because it is cautioned because of the high addictiveness. I dread before the dose increase, because from Monday I should 75mg ret. Now I take another 2 * 37.5. And it should be further increased. But I try it for now.

    Lorazepam for Obsessive compulsive disorder

Hallihallo, I have had good experiences with both medications. Tavor (which is actually the active ingredient lorazepam) I took about 3 years ago because of my anxiety disorder. That was pretty bad back then. I was set on Citalopram. In order to have an easier entry, I got at the same time Tavor. At the beginning one tablet with 1 mg and then outgrown, up to 0.25 mg. The Tavor completely took away my fear. I was soooo thankful back then. I had side effects, however: – tiredness-swim from reality and dream (that I could then keep apart difficult then, or I did not remember exactly whether things really happened, or I had only dreamed ^ ^) feeling how to be drugged -branch-feeling that everything does not matter -grand smiles: D I got Lorazepam again a few weeks ago, because I tried to sell citalopram and get along without medication. Unfortunately it has led to fear and panic and even obsessive thoughts. Then I switched to fluoxetine, which made everything worse. So again taken Citalopram and get lorazepam at the same time, because the fear and panic were so strong again. But above all, the obsessive thoughts that made me really ready … Also taken back to the beginning of 1 mg and then cut out. Here I had only fatigue as a side effect, because I am after 1-2 days equal to half a tablet. That was enough for me then, thank God! I can recommend it to bridge such periods. I’ve always got it now, in case I have an emergency. Not happening yet, but I feel safer. But you should not take it for long and if possible put it down quickly. Even if it is difficult, but if at the same time e.g. SSRI is given, then you can bridge the time needed for the SSRI to work. Then you can Lorazepam o.ä. settle again. You just become easily dependent on such drugs. Not only mentally, but also physically, which is bad … Fortunately, this is not the case with today’s SSRIs.

    Side effects: Dizziness

    Lorazepam for Borderline; Depression

Side effects, early onset, fatigue, fatigue occasionally eye cramps, weight gain, heartburn. I have never read the leaflets because I probably would not have taken the medicine. Among the antidepressants, after being still prescribed Tavor 2.5, because of the panic attacks. But the panic attacks are not side effects of the antidepressant drugs, because they had long before. In a wanted by me deposition of antidepressants, came suicidal thoughts, try. And to remedy the annoying heartburn, then added the drug Ulnor 20 mg. The dose has never been lowered. Sertraline 100mg, previously Zoloft. Mirtazapine 45mg, previously Remergil. Lorazepam = Tavor 2.5mg.

Side effects: Increase in weight; Fatigue
