  • Treat anxiety disorders in psychosis and depression
  • Reduce nervousness
  • Treat Sleep Disorders
  • relieve epileptic seizures
  • Calm patients before diagnostic, as well as before and after surgery

This is how Lorazepam works

Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of Lorazepam.
Please also read the information on the drug groups benzodiazepines, sleeping pills, to which the active ingredient Lorazepam belongs.

Applications of the active ingredient Lorazepam

Lorazepam is used for the short-term treatment of acute and chronic anxiety disorders and nervousness associated with psychosis and depression. However, lorazepam is only used if the symptoms can not be sufficiently controlled with the commonly used antidepressants or neuroleptics. Lorazepam can treat only the symptoms here, not the causes of the disease.

In addition, Lorazepam is used for the short-term treatment of sleep disorders such as falling asleep and staying asleep if they significantly impair the quality of life or are also associated with anxiety. In the case of insomnia, the active ingredient should only be administered if a calming effect is also desired during the day.

Lorazepam is also used as a solution for alleviating the symptoms of ongoing epileptic seizures (status epilepticus).

In addition, Lorazepam is used to calm (sedate) patients before diagnostic, as well as before and after surgical procedures.

The active substance belongs to the Benzodiazepinen and may be prescribed only after careful medical benefit-risk-weighing. The duration of treatment should be as short as possible, as the drug quickly makes dependent. Therefore, the treatment, including the gradual withdrawal phase, should not exceed four weeks.

For the following application areas of Lorazepam , in-depth information is available:

  • anxiety disorders
  • nervous
  • sleep

Effect of Lorazepam

Lorazepam is one of the medium-acting benzodiazepines. This means that the active ingredient and its main metabolite are halfway out of the body after about 12 to 16 hours.

Lorazepam binds to the receptors specific to this drug group in the brain. The active ingredient thus enhances the inhibitory effect of the messenger GABA on different nerve nodes in the central nervous system (CNS). In this way, Lorazepam tensions, tension and anxiety-calming as well as calming and sleep-inducing. In higher doses, it may also reduce the tendency to epileptic seizures.

Lorazepam is always thought of as addictive, but what does not make it addictive in the present … I had not taken it for months, as I had always listened to others, overcoming it was worse than the side effect , When I got a panic attack again, I did not know what to do anymore. I then took them, and I noticed how everything came off. I had to take many medications (antidepressants). But Lorazepam does not have these side effects than others – I regret that I did not take the drug for months. The first time I was clear in the head again and could think clearly and had felt life and life, even the constant vertigo disappeared. I’m a person who does not like to take medication, but the issue of whether or not it’s addictive is a topic that should not be so hyped up. Because of nasal spray and Asperin there are also addicted people, and there will always be people who have the tendency to become addicted. Except for a bit of tiredness, a bit strange eyes, I did not notice any side effects. Through this addictive topic, doctors are already careful to prescribe these medications, but I will always take them in emergencies and moods and to calm you down.

    Lorazepam for Anxiety disorders; Depression

I only took Lorazepam for a few days and today only occasionally because I am better off now. The dosage varies well with viélen very strong. Where other 1mg achievements had to be achieved, I had to In my case take 2 mg to get a little calmer. When sleeping I rarely took them but under 3 mg I did not feel anything. When I took another 1mg pill after an hour, I was incredibly relaxing and finally fell asleep a few minutes later. For me and my doctor Lorazepam is next to Diazepam the best Medikamnet in anxiety disorders of all kinds and every depressive who is in a crisis for a few hours back to normal life brings back. SORRY and caution makes lorazepam and diazepam (even in small amounts) after a few weeks ahhängig. Although not as bad as one would take it already years, but still is easy to get away (just at high Dosiuerung) of these Medikamnete realtiv difficult and should therefore be gradually phased out. Despite these dangers, you can safely take these days, I’m glad that I have received this that they have not brought back to reality.

    Lorazepam for Migraine

Hello, have received from the family doctor because of severe headaches and migraine Lorazepam 2.5 mg. At first I should only take one tablet before going to bed; At the end (after 5 years), I took 12.5 mg a day to somehow funkrionieren. Additionally also Imigran, Ibuflam 800 mg and much more. No more control. Lorazepam made me feel worse and worse. The migraine attacks increased (every other day) and otherwise I felt damn …. I then visited a pain clinic from me and I drove immediately from 100 to 0. It was hell !!! But I wanted to get away from all the pill stuff. The withdrawal symptoms were shortness of breath, palpitations, nausea / vomiting, anxiety. Never again such an experienceIf you suddenly can not breathe on your own thanks to these pills, a sister has to wash and put on your clothes … nobody really wants to experience something like that. Have it through my doctor and a very good therapist then in 17 days, Had not believed before; but I just did not want to take it anymore. Conclusion: Keep your hands off this devil stuff. It only causes additional problems and at the end is the withdrawal. It is now 2 years ago and I have not touched any more pills. My migraine is gone and I’m fine. Only and alone falling asleep took almost a year until it was again o. K. But without medication. But then you can read a nice book or do creative things. Try to do without this stuff. It’s definitely worth it. Can you give me a good tip regarding withdrawal: Sign up in the Rommel Clinic in Bad Wildbad. There are very good doctors and therapists and you are looked after all around. Keep your fingers crossed for everyone who wants to do the same. Good luck and a nice life without pills wishes Steffi

My experiences with Lorazepam are very good, with one exception. I have no side effects. The only point is that there is a certain tolerance to the drug during long-term treatment, so that the dose must be increased.

    Lorazepam for Unrest; Sleep disorders

I can not write experience reports on all of these drugs, they all serve their purpose, one less and the other less. It happens that it can lead to constipation. Especially with Zopiclone a long-acting bitter taste in the throat to mundberecht (about 12-17h)

Lorazepam for Unrest; Anxiety disorders; Sleep disorders

Hello, so against Lorazepam Dura 1mg I can not really complain. I’ve been taking it for 3 months now (prescribed by the doctor – I’m 22 years old) and they’ve always scared me. But what really bothers me at the moment is, the other morning, the first thing that happens when I wake up is that I get worried … (I was also being investigated, taking blood, ECG & little further examinations!) That’s all right ! But I always imagine that I have something … 🙁 vicious circle 🙁 Had someone here ever had this (puerperal depression, are also called baby blues.) After birth ??? which then became a postpartum depression? “I got it after 3 days of delivery of my child, she is now 4 months old.” These anxiety & panic attacks I sometimes get unexpectedly, I get scared, get a high pulse (the blood pressure is completely ok!) Overstimulation & ‘these evening dysfunctions .. I would be glad of an answer! Lg Janine

    Lorazepam for Obsessive compulsive disorder

At first I only got (inpatient) Zyprexa prescribed-whereby the medical doctor who had also-as it seemed to me-had used out of a trial mood paired with helplessness. But he did a little luck with it. At least if you have already tried almost all atypicals with mostly strong side effects (like constant resting heart rate above 100 (with Seroquel), restlessness (with Solian), Parkinsonoid (with Abilify and Risperdal).) Then again about 6 weeks after the inpatient discharge psychotic I then spent more than three years tinkering with the dose of Zyprexa (between 5mg-30mg) to control the remaining compulsive impulses, but Zyprexa had no effect on this, so I started taking Lorazepam ( However, this has only dampened the fears associated with the obsessive-compulsive impulses / thoughts. Finally, I have discontinued the antidepressant Cymbalta before half-a-half (actually unsuitable for schizophrenia with obsessive-compulsive impulses) and replaced with sertraline (also here maximum ambulant dose 200mg) and that has then completely shot down my bird he rarely (not at all) in frightening situations of coercion and have for a half year a constant dose of 10mg Zyprexa, 200mg Sertraline and 2mg Lorazepam (Tavor). Since then, I have no more mental limitations and do not waste any time trying out anything new, let alone rummaging back on the dose (that’s pure poison!). Note, of course, I also had the strong compulsory weight gain of Zyprexa: from 60Kg on up to 82kg – today I am constantly between 73kg-75kg.

    Side effects: Increase in weight

Lorazepam for Anxiety and panic attacks

Lorazepam, one of the then best tranquilizers. Tavor is not a sham solution to problems, but a solution to sham problems – so it was then advertised. This group of medicines takes a friend from 1977 to today. It’s about the benzodiazepines. Librium was the first representative, then Valium came. All benzodiazepines have a similar effect. Some have a sedative and calming effect, such as B. Diazepam = Valium. Others are effective against anxiety and relaxing like the tavor. In addition there are the half-lives. Diazepam has a HWZ of 48 hours, only then half of it is degraded, unfortunately to active metabolites such as desmethlydiazepam and oxazepam. Lorazepam has a shorter half-life. It is around 6 hours. There is a table of equivalence doses: 10 mg diazepam equals 1 mg lorazepam or 5 mg bromazepam. Until the beginning of the 1980s, these drugs were distributed like Smarties. Only then did they realize that they were addictive. At first it was contradicted, it was said that the conditions were back, as before the taking. But then came the tolerance. Some people take 200 mg diazepam or equivalent 20 mg lorazepam daily. The withdrawal must be made gradually. The higher the dose and the duration of the intake, the longer the withdrawal. Cold withdrawal can be fatal: it starts with anxiety, sweating, shaking, then convulsions, seizures like epileptic and delirium. The problem is slow down. It can last for a very long time. The author of the site used to do cold deprivations herself, but she realized that it would not work. On the page you will also find information on how much potency a benzodiazepine has over diazepam and some examples of salvaging. A hospital can not go the way. More than 6 weeks are not there. Every week is halved and the patient is discharged as bezodiazepinfrei.Ist he is not. He can not stand the pressure. His first course is to the doctor. And so the game goes on.May add that benzodiazepines are important emergency medications. In case of a heart attack, strokes, etc., the patient is immobilized once. For the permanent medication, they are absolutely not suitable.

    Lorazepam for Sleep disorders

I received Lorazepam 20 mg with Fluoxetine as an emergency drug for sleep disorders. To keep the risk at the first intake low, I tried Lorazepam only on Friday evening. Until this day, the only side effects of Fluoxetine were that I keep waking up at night (without panic). After taking it, I did not feel any difference at first. At night, I woke up about every half hour and felt a strong feeling of tightness in the chest. The cold sweat broke out and every dream became a nightmare. This condition lasted until Sunday noon. I got more and more respiratory problems and panic feelings and also the depression with migraines and suicidal thoughts returned. Only last night (Tuesday to Wednesday) disappeared the panic attacks (no more Lorazepameinnahme since Friday evening). I will not take Lorazepam anymore, but advise everyone to test for themselves.

Lorazepam for Anxiety and panic attacks; Depression

Diagnosis: (severe) depression, anxiety and panic attacks 1st trial: Sertraline. Initially massive anxiety increase. Ineffective against depression. Side effects: anxiety, agitation, depersonalization / derealization, loss of libido, cocaine pain. Abandoned after a short time. 2nd trial: venlaflaxin. Very effective against panic attacks. Ineffective against depression. Side effects: same as with sertraline. Ingestion to date (225mg / day) 3. Simultaneous treatment with Lyrica. Very effective against internal states of tension, general anxiety and agitation. No influence on the depression. Side effects: fatigue, hunger (weight gain) and slight increase in depressive inertia. 4. Following treatment with quetiapine (Seroquel). Timely treatment with lithium. Strong antisuizidal, otherwise no influence. Side effects: tremor, weight gain and acne. Taking until today. 6. On top of that, Bupoprion (Etronil). Initially highly effective against depression. After a few weeks of action disappeared. No effect on anxiety disorder. Side effects: tremor, dry mouth and sleep disorders. Unplanned treatment success against nicotine addiction. 7. On the whole cocktail again on top: Lamotrigine. Strong effect against depression. No effect on anxiety disorders. Side effects: none. 8. For 7 days try with Methylphenidad (Ritalin). No effect, various side effects. 9. Discontinuation of Lyrica and Wellbutrin without visible consequences. 10th attempt with Nortrilen. Drug very effective against depression. Side effect: Dry mouth, hunger, sleep problems and high blood pressure. Libido can not be assessed due to concomitant use of venlaflaxin. Right now I do not care about the side effects of Nortrilen. After 2 years and various attempts, the first antidepressant, which is really antidepressant. After 2 years of immeasurable suffering, I am finally on the way to recovery. For a long time I hesitated to take an old antidepressant. With all my medicine cocktail, I simply lacked the belief that something could actually work. However, I can highly recommend it for resistance to therapy today. However, the whole chemistry does not replace psychotherapy, which is necessary for longer-term recovery. Some years ago, I could not imagine why anyone could commit suicide. I was taught in a painful way a better one. Hold on, even if it does not look like it at all. It’s actually over.
