Application of the active substance levetiracetam

Levetiracetam is used in epilepsy with seizures that affect only part of the brain (partial or partial seizures). These seizures can be limited to the affected part of the brain, but also spread to other parts of the brain.

Levetirazetam is only a single agent for patients over 16 years of age.

Along with other antiepileptic drugs, the drug is used in adults, children and infants. In infants, the application is only allowed as a solution. This allows the necessary, very fine dosage. In the form of infusions, levetirazetam can be used in children over the age of four years.

For the following application areas of Levetiracetam , in-depth information is available:

  • epilepsies

How Levetiracetam works

Levetiracetam belongs to the drug group of antiepileptic drugs. How Levetiracetam exerts its effect in the body is still unknown.

Levetiracetam is thought to affect gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA), the most important neurotransmitter in the brain.

On the other hand, it has been proven that levetiracetam provides seizure protection in epilepsy without altering basic cellular functions or altering the normal transmission of information between the nerves. In animal studies Levetiracetam can not only interrupt convulsions, but even prevent the emergence of new seizures. Whether Levetiracetam can stop the progression of epilepsy in humans, however, has yet to be explored in further studies.

    Keppra for Epilepsy

I took everything for my seizure type in advance. (focal epilepsy with sec. generalization) (Orfiril, Trileptal, Zonegran, Carbamazepine, Lamotrigine, Topamax, Lyrica including Frisium, Tavor and Citalopram) Currently Lyrica, Lamotrigine and Keppra. Keppra is well-liked by doctors for its probably minor side effects. It has its effect, as far as right, just in each case to a different degree. However, since my psyche has a tremendous impact on seizures, Keppra is known to cause depression more easily than other medicines! So if you have problems with your psyche, you should check or think about it and talk to your doctor if it’s the right choice. Keppra I’m currently out and have in addition to Lamotrigin, Lyrica in the Programm taken.

    Side effects: No side effects

    Keppra for Epilepsy

I’ve been taking this drug for more than 2 years in the form of monotherapy with 2,000 mg daily (1,000 mg in the morning, 1,000 mg in the evening) and have not been able to detect any side effects so far. I have been seizure-free since taking this drug, and I’m living a normal, active and balanced life again.

    Keppra for Epilepsy

to Keppra: Fatigue, dizziness, aggressiveness, depulsive disorders, lack of strength and listlessness – side effects diminished after about 2 months of use, unfortunately, despite a high dose in monotherapy no seizure freedom could be achieved, therefore Topamax as second-medi, again severe fatigue, occasionally mild dizziness (slow dosing!), slight eye pressure, severe bones or joint and muscle pain – improvement after about 2 weeks after each increase, mild word finding disorders mainly about 1 hour after taking Topamax – but seizure freedom !!! With Convulex (valproate) over 17 years completely seizure-free, weight gain, hair loss on the head or unwanted hair growth -> hormonal condition, other hormonal problems: cysts in the ovaries, absence of the menstrual bleeding, etc., Long-term side effect: liver parenchyma – & gt; Liver fatty acid GammaGT at 498 … & nbsp; WITHOUT ALCOHOL! Lamotrigine: gastrointestinal problems, increase seizure frequency
