Application of the active substance fluoxetine

The drug is used for depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and bulimia, an eating disorder characterized by uncontrollable binge eating.

For the following uses of Fluoxetine , in-depth information is available:

  • depression

Effect of Fluoxetine

Fluoxetine belongs to the group of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. The active ingredient, like all other active substances in this group, also leads to a better mood in the brain due to an improved supply of the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain. This explains the use of the drug in depression.

When given in tablet form, fluoxetine is reached after four to eight hours. Excretion is 60 percent through the kidneys. The antidepressant effect usually starts after two to four weeks of regular use of Fluoxetine.

The active substance and its likewise effective degradation products remain active in the body for a relatively long time. This is an advantage when taking an irregular dose, but it also makes it difficult to switch to another medication. The half-life, the time after which half of the originally present substance has been eliminated from the body, is one to two weeks for the effective degradation products of the active ingredient.

    Fluoxetine for Post-traumatic stress disorder

*** General *** Fluoxetine is an antidepressant (SSRI). However, it is also used in diseases other than depression. For example, in case of obsessive-compulsive disorder, bulimia or posttraumatic stress disorder. If you take Fluoxetine, you should not take St. John’s Wort at the same time as it can cause bad interactions. Pregnant women should not take fluoxetine because it can be dangerous for the child. *** Personal Experiences *** I get along well with this medication. The most important thing for me is that it helps against the symptoms of my PTSD (depression, anxiety, flashbacks). For that I also like to accept certain side effects. The side effects are with me trembling hands, weight loss (but I can live well with that) and increased sweating especially at night. As I said, this drug is effective and well tolerated.

Fluoxetine for Aggressiveness; Psychological instability; Depression

Significant improvement: better assessment of previously depressed situations (did not notice the difference until after taking the medication), emotionally less depressive rashes down, less to 180, increase drive, could move me in social situations much more relaxed, cessation of active suicidal thoughts. Side effects: palpitations, heart rhythm disturbances, sometimes chest tightness when lying down, often awake at night for 2-4 hours (stupid if you have to return to the office in the morning …), thus also gaining weight (controlling eating disorders at night was more difficult), partly over-spirited mood.

Fluoxetine for Fatigue; Psychological instability; Drive disorders; Depression

Hello, After a BurnOut with situational depression in 2007 (paraoxat), I was relatively long without major incidents. However, due to high pressure and stress, few breaks and little bit of yours, it started again at the beginning of this year 2011. Physical symptoms (headache, toothache (pulling in the lower jaw), visual disturbance, tension, palpitations, thought carousel, severe acne, weight gain, dissatisfaction, no light in the sky) and pronounced negative sleep hygiene (sleep 16 hours a day). Strong PMHS (especially bad 2 weeks before) I first started psychotherapy and then with the use of Fluoxetine 20mg 1 A Pharma. The first weeks were really steep. I could hardly look out of my eyes, it was like a fog. The fatigue was initially worse, but my thought carousel within the first tablet dissolved like on. I quickly increased to 60mg, then land again at 40mg. I did not lose weight, but I did not gain weight. Four weeks, I was almost giving up, I sat on the couch in the evening and it clicked in my head. Like lightning that changed my thoughts and feelings and made me feel positive. The next day I was full of verve and I was finally better again. This cloudy mood, rain clouds, as if blown away. I immediately started doing sports and healthy eating to support all of this and during therapy I also tried to make my life so that I am no longer close to a burn out. So I take breaks, do not put myself under pressure and start to live again, what was missing in recent years. That sounds all very summarized, whatever it is, but I can say, the familiarization Fluoxetine, I have now switched to Ratiopharm, the fatigue was by ratiopharm why always better, was steep. I wanted to give up, I will not sell the drug for now and continue to take.

Thanks abilify I constantly chatter, I have the feeling, quicker and better to think .. and little sleep .. would not be so bad, if not the side effects would be: pain in the fingers, they soon went away, however, but now after 10 days still persists, restless legs and annoying feet. I already had the idea to cut my feet off in this regard (!), which of course I will not do, but it is unpleasant already. if my feet are also swollen, I do not know, I’m not a doctor, in any case, they fit into my old shoes;)

Fluoxetine for Bipolar disorder; Sleep disorders

After being in psychological support again and again since 2004, or at least with a certain continuity, first of all because of severe depression (complete withdrawal from life, suicidal thoughts, lost courage in life). During this time, I fell ill with third-degree Lyme disease, which is the case I noticed by the three times occurrence of a Facilalis paresis and my psyche the rest gave (paralyzed face, sick leave, misdiagnosis without end, etc. This was also carried out with a weight gain of 55kg, in my case, a precise doubling of the GewichtesStandard 54kg This is partly attributable to the numerous antidepressants. Zoloft, clomipramine and whatever they are called … after the diet began to bear fruit I gradually ceased to feel better. Find 99 % of these meds make only impulsive and impotent and above all thick.Zumal there in 3 years no pill what m a state of mind has really changed what. Due to these negative experiences, I was after times in which I was fine and I never wanted to take antidepressants again … could after repeated strong mood swings with sometimes bad consequences and increasingly depressive mood, a visit to the doctor no longer be bypassed. My doctor then prescribed me After hard persuasion, fluoxetine would not make you fat, etc., just this medicine. Highly satisfied, as it does not fade, except for minimal discomfort the first week (but that has, with any psychotropic drugs). I highly recommend it. ZOPICLON, on the other hand, should really be treated with caution. “For the short-term treatment of sleep disorders … sounds nice … but this is impossible for someone who thinks to have sleep disturbances.” One falls asleep Stone the first of me for weeks, then you take half more, then you take one day a day to be relaxed in stressful situations … I have finally completely forgotten that NOBODY can fall asleep in the world within a minute I then five minutes in bed without having fallen asleep … suggested to me my mental dependence: I can not sleep and must take a tablet. Fluoxetine for Mood swings; Bipolar disorder; Drive disorders; Depression

I also voted against my Bipolar Affective Disorder Manic Depressive Disease called these two drugs together with my doctor after several years of searching in vain for the right medication. At the beginning, every fortnight I wavered between low mood and unnoticed hypomania. When I did not pay much attention to it and continued to work 60-70 hours a week and in the meantime gave birth to 2 children, it became so bad that I took the eighth train of the emotions at least 1-2 times that day , Today I know why I got this disease as a gift. Back in my teens, when I had very severe acne, my doctor prescribed me a drug called Roaccutan as a last resort, which allegedly drove at least 9 people into suicide. I was lucky enough to be able to control my suicidal thoughts and have myself admitted to open psychiatry. There I was prescribed lithium first. Then they experimented with different drugs from Trevilor to Zeldox or Atypical Neuroleptics like Sulpiride in small doses. But whenever the medications had helped for a few days, the effect simply stopped after certain times. And especially the hypomania was gone but the shit …… Depris were always there and I could not be happy anymore and always had something like a stone in the pit of my stomach. Until I found the combination myself with my doctor. The Seroquel helps me to protect myself in both directions. It helps me more against the exhausting hypo or partial mania. But it does not help enough against depression. That’s why I tried fluoxetine, and lo and behold, both medicines in combination have totally changed my life. When my doctor returned from the congress he said that for bipolar people it is the best combination right now to take these two medicines. At the beginning I had the lithium in addition to the seroquel and fluoxetine. I have asked my doctor to omit the exhausting lithium. He agreed and it came as it had to come. I became so manic that I became aggressive and turned on some people totally and turned off completely. When I was in the open two weeks, I was the seroquel increased by 50% and reduced the driving fluoxetine to a single dose. Since this hospitalization I have now the dose in the morning 100mg Seroquel and 20mg Fluoxetine. In the evening I take now 400mg Seroquel and that’s it. Since then, I feel something of normal as years no longer. I have no big weight gain from the Seroquel and then only between 2 and 4 kilograms. I was always tired and broken at the beginning with the treatment of Seroquel and did not get out of bed. This has changed with the dose increase. I can think clearer again and I can remember things again. So exactly the opposite what others are reporting here about the Seroquel. I have had the best experience with Seroquel and Fluoxetine. And if I have Parkinson’s in 20 years I do not care. Because then at least I was allowed to experience my good years in a normal and joyful way. I wish you all that it may be the same with you as with me. It took me almost 5 years to find the right medication.

Take fluoxetine for 1.5 years. Reason: anxiety disorder (social anxiety, claustrophobia, emetophobia) My first experience with an antidepressant. Started with 20mg, reduced because of too strong side effects after 3 days and then slowly rebuilt to 20 mg. Take now for over a year 20mg daily in the morning. The first weeks severe side effects: nausea, loss of appetite, severe lack of concentration (I was actually completely beside me), severe headache, forced yawning, dry mouth, tiredness, night sweats. Better after about 2-3 weeks. Conclusion after 1.5 years: I can go back to work and work. Emotions, however, have fallen by the wayside. I’m pretty much indifferent, I do not feel like doing anything, I can not get up to sport or doing business anymore, I’m generally not interested in anything. I’m almost always tired and sleep 9 to 10 hours – in the afternoon I’m often so sleepy that I have to lie down. In addition to the fatigue and indifference: night sweats, sexual aversion, orgasm inability. At the end of the year I would like to slowly reduce my dose and let it escape. I would like to – despite all the fears – once again feel something like enthusiasm …

    Fluoxetine for Depression

Was switched to fluoxetine about 5 months ago … The depression and anxiety have disappeared, I’m resilient and somehow nothing is close to me. I’m clear from the head, think faster and be more focused. But the side effects are sooo strong 🙁 Hunger is my constant companion … have gained 12 pounds, (most of the stomach) despite balanced nutrition and a lot of sports, I am totally desperate because I need only 4-5 hours of sleep and wake up from bloating and feeling of fullness.

Fluoxetine for Burnout syndrome; Drive disorders

I can only warn against drinking alcohol in conjunction with this medicine. I had no side effects after three weeks (20 mg a day), except dry mouth and flatulence. I also did not feel a positive effect. I was prescribed the stuff because of burnout and listlessness. I’m not a drinker, but I’m still drinking and never had problems with the alcohol. After the side effects had subsided, I mixed a few drinks (Southern with Coke) on a weekend, I would have preferred that. Normally I would have been pleasantly tipsy but suddenly I just fell over like a tree. My wife was shocked and shook me awake, I was completely gone. Then I got up with her help and immediately turned over again. I was chalk white and made it to bed. She wanted to call the ambulance, but that was too embarrassing for me. My wife did not sleep all night terrified and constantly checked my pulse. The next morning I could not remember anything. The memory of this event came gradually. Not thinking what could have happened to me if I had not been home. I’ve dropped the stuff and I want to warn everyone who has to take it. Avoid alcohol, even smaller amounts, if you have to take the stuff.

    Fluoxetine for Adh syndrome; Depression

Fluoxetine has produced few side effects with me. 1) My eating habits have improved so much that I only have an appetite when my body is hungry or needs something to eat. 2) During the day I was often tired and exhausted, I often slept – that is past! The disadvantage here is that at night I do not completely come to rest and fall asleep bad. 3) I would like to have a better mood (as it always used to be), but probably without Fluoxetine.

    Fluoxetine for Drive disorders; Depression

I took Fluoxetine 40mg for a few months at a time and noticed as a positive effect that I was in a better mood and above all relaxed in everyday life. In between times I have the medi. stopped and realized that I had felt better with fluoxetine. So I took it back up to 3 weeks ago and then lowered it to 20mg by agreement with my doctor and down to 10mg since today. I would like to try again without it, because I have a strong feeling in my hands (especially at night) and there is paresthesia as a side effect and I can currently find no other cause. Furthermore, the sweating sometimes gets on my nerves. In addition, all in all, I have also gained 20 KG and now in various forums read that there is more often in patients as a side effect. I did not know that, because it is not in the leaflet and my doctor said, you decrease rather.

    Fluoxetine for Burnout syndrome; Depression

Fluoxetine has been shown to have an excellent effect when taken with 2 tablets of 20 mg. I was really fine with that. Unfortunately, significant erectile dysfunction and almost complete loss of libido occurred at the same time. 1 tablet was unfortunately too weak but also brought no / hardly any side effects. Positive aspect: weight loss. Cymbalta has a good effect with fewer side effects. Normal libido, only even easier erectile dysfunction. Especially if I forgot the tablets again 3 or 4 days and imagine I do not need them … and start again. During this time from the 3rd day heavy perspiration, slowed thought processes, nausea and strong irritability. With regular intake: o.k., but relatively strong weight gain.

I’ve been taking fluoxetine for almost three months now and coping well with it. It is important that you adjust the dose indivudell also adapts the daily. I did not get along well with 40 mg in the morning, because it caused me considerable side effects, such as headache and blurred vision, the limitation of sensory perception and the onset of nausea were already immense. with another distribution of the dose in the morning and at noon or in the evening I was obviously better. mentally I benefited from the drug. Despondency and forcible ideas became apparent and I became more active again. What has remained of side effect is a disturbed sleep rhythm, sometimes muscle twitching at night and heat flashes. I find that bearable, but I’m psychologically more stable and can work on the causes better.
