About Femara

Most forms of breast cancer are promoted in their growth by the female sex hormone estrogen. Letrozole is used in postmenopausal women to combat such so-called hormone-dependent forms of breast cancer in order to reduce the growth of the tumor. However, the drug can also be used as a cancer medicine in patients who are due to ovarian erosion during menopause.

Letrozole is used

  • as first-line therapy after an early-stage breast cancer tumor has been removed by surgery
  • after five years of standard therapy with tamoxifen, another breast cancer medicine
  • also as first-line therapy, ie first-line therapy, in advanced breast cancer
  • in recurrence or exacerbation of breast cancer despite treatment with antiestrogens

What is the purpose of this ingredient?

  • Decrease hormone-sensitive breast cancer cells

This is how Letrozol works

Below you will learn more about the applications and the mode of action of letrozole.
Please also read the information on the drug classes aromatase inhibitors, cytostatics, to which the active ingredient letrozole belongs.

  • breast cancer

Mode of action of letrozole

Before menopause, the ovaries are the headquarters of estrogen production by aromatase. There, however, aromatase inhibitors are ineffective and can not suppress estrogen production. In addition, aromatase produces a small amount of estrogen in the liver, adrenal gland, adipose tissue cells, and, fatally, in breast cancer cells. Estrogen production in these tissues is maintained even after menopause. However, it can then be blocked by letrozole. So the production of estrogen remaining after the menopause comes to a standstill.

In women with advanced stage breast cancer who are after the menopause, daily doses of 0.1 to 5 milligrams of letrozole reduce the concentration of estrogen in the blood by 75 to 95 percent of baseline.</p >

    Femara for Breast cancer

I have reported here as a guest a few weeks ago about side effects of Femara. Initial side effects such as palpitations and massive sweats were massive, but after a short time they have subsided. At that time I did not know that this was just the beginning of further problems. As often read here, massive bone and joint pain, fatigue, and nausea came along, with a beginning of weight gaining and bloating without any of it. I have the experience that deny the side effects. If some become weaker or disappear, others come or reinforce themselves. The quality of life sinks in parts to zero. The fear of cancer and the hope that the side effects are bearable and stop, let me first go on.

You sometimes say words that do not fit and you do not even want to say, or you use words from another language that you also know well 3. Memory problems, you often forget what you wanted. Recalling memories also slows down The side effects are simply brutal and diminish the quality of life! It is not possible to evaluate effectiveness.

2009 breast surgery, after irradiation tamoxifen intake. Then 2x pneumonia and pulmonary embolism. 2010 intake of Femara. Then it started right. Terrible joint and bone problems. Came up after prolonged sitting only in severe pain. It seemed like an old woman. (61 y.) I still tried to walk 1/2 hour every day. Strong mood swings were added. The quality of life was severely impaired. Then I stopped 2 weeks with Femara. And behold, the complaints were not so strong. But I was unsure, what should I do. By chance, a friend (also a cancer patient) has given me the advice to take Femara in the evening. I then took Calcium Plus Vitamin D3 in the morning and Femara and Calcium Plus Vitamin D3 in the evening. I can only say for myself, it helped me. The complaints are not so strong anymore. I can live with that. Although I still have hot flashes, but the joint u. Bone discomfort is not so strong and the mood swings have become less. I hope it gets better.

    Femara for Pain (joint)

Since Septermber 20089 I take the drug Femara. In the beginning I had severe hair loss, but over time it returned. Not only do I suffer from very strong muscle and gel pain, but I also have water in my legs, stomach and upper abdomen and in my fingers. Besides, I cough a lot and the pharynx and nasal mucous membranes are swollen. I am not happy about Fenara. I would like to say that I am 66 years old and had an estrogen-related carcinoma, with removal of the complete left breast and 19 lymph nodes, of which 1 infested was.

In February 2009 I had to undergo a breast surgery. (Turmor 2.7 cm in size) and received after subsequent irradiation the drug Femara (because of positive receptor). I read a lot here in the forum and constantly come across negative experiences regarding the side effects with Femara. For me, no side effects have occurred to this day, although I delayed the intake due to the many and not just building reports by 4 months. I’m 59 years old and I feel great, I’m still working full time, maybe I should add that after 10 years this is my second cancer. But, as we all know, hope dies last 🙂 I wish all concerned that you feel as well as I do today. I know what I’m talking about, I’ve already gone through hell, but I do not wish that to anybody. Therefore, head up, always look forward and go through life positively, that helps.
