Effect of Doxepin

Doxepin is one of the tricyclic antidepressants. It has pronounced calming, anxiolytic and mood-enhancing effects.

As an action mechanism for the effect in the brain an influence of the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine is assumed. Doxepin inhibits their reuptake into the cells, thus increasing their concentration in the brain and thus unfolding its positive effect.

Doxepin also inhibits the action of the tissue hormone histamine by blocking the H1 and H2 receptors. Doxepin was used to inhibit gastric juice secretion and the development of gastric ulcers under stress in different experimental settings.

Doxepin has a weak anticholinergic and antispasmodic effect both in the brain and in the rest of the body. Like other tricyclic antidepressants, it inhibits the conduction of the heart at high doses (slowing the heartbeat) and lowers the resistance within the blood vessels slightly (lowering blood pressure).

The following effects of doxepin have also been demonstrated in animal experiments: Effectiveness of analgesics, reduction of dependence on opioid analgesics, suppression of withdrawal symptoms in morphine dependence.

    Doxepin for Sleep disorders; Depression

It is a definite help with insomnia, but the effect disappears after some time, so unfortunately I am additionally sedative of type Benziop. engaging. Doxepin has a calming effect, but from 50 mg (2 tablets) I am very tired and depressed by the late afternoon. Have tried many antidepressants in sleep disorders, but I always got along with doxepin. Unfortunately, the antidepressant effect at 25 mg is rather lean.

Doxepin for Drive disorders; Sleep disorders; Depression

Because of the sleep disturbances, Doxepin helped me a lot in the beginning. Could switch off and was pleasantly tired. A fatigue that I know from before, when I still worked professionally and generally after my work was done. Also helps with chronic pain; in addition to the use of painkillers. After some time, I also had to take zolpidem. That’s a hammer. After about 20 minutes, I’m totally tired, would fall asleep sitting. I have to go to bed immediately. The best thing is to go to bed right after Einhame. Otherwise there will be difficulties in walking. But sleeping through 7-8 hours, as stated, is not enough. After about 5 hours, I wake up. But I am tired again often, then I nod again. But I am very thirsty and dry and have to urinate.

    Doxepin for Bipolar disorder; Depression

In hospitalization with severe depression in bipolar disorder, doxepin and lamotrigine were crept in. There were no side effects with lamotrigine. However, I have gained almost 9 kg of Doxepin, and I also suffered from dry mouth. In the meantime, I (according to doctor) also micturition (bladder emptying disorder) and thus had a serious bladder infection. Unfortunately I continued to have so-called mixed and / or rapid cycling phases, so I got Seroquel Prolong. I take it from now on. 600 mg. It works against me especially against my massive irritability. Unfortunately, I suddenly have problems with low blood pressure, dizziness and nausea when suddenly getting up. In the meantime, however, this has become much better!

    Doxepin for Bipolar disorder; Depression

Hello everybody, in 2002 I was diagnosed with a bipolar disorder. Back then I was still living near Stuttgart, where I had a doctor who really took good care of me. However, my husband and I moved to the beginning of 2003 in the Palatinate and I had to look for a new doctor. I was with two different psychologists, but I did not feel well from the start. My doctor prescribed Doxepin for me then. I became very tired of it and the depression itself did not improve after my subjective condition. I felt very depressed and unhappy. I could no longer take care of my household. My husband cooked when he came home from work in the evening and did the laundry. Although I was at home all day, but so impotent that I could not perform even the simplest tasks. The two psychologists, whom I then visited one after the other at the urging of my husband, continued to prescribe Doxepin for me, but both refused a talk therapy. The first said, one must first wait until the drug shows its effect, the second said in my illness, drugs are the most effective remedy and I would be better soon better. In the meantime, the medications made me “better” in the meantime (rather different, not really better), that I gradually got my daily life back on track, but I felt empty and dull inside. I had gained 18 kilos with the medication and practically floated next to me, because I never felt really awake. Nothing made me happy, my life had no quality of life at all. It went so far that in 2005 I thought about suicide. A co-worker of my husband recommended us a doctor who helped her very much and since my husband was always eager to do everything to make me feel better, we went to see this doctor. At that time Dr. med. Jonas Thomczyk in Kaiserslautern. I immediately felt very comfortable in his presence. He had a high level of competence and was ready to offer me a talk therapy. Unlike the other two doctors, I felt very well looked after and Dr. Thomczyk was available to me outside of his office hours and always ready for an appointment at short notice. Alone through the talk therapy I was after a short time noticeably better. Dr. Thomczyk discontinued the doxepin and prescribed me another medicine: Maprolu. I had never heard of it before, but I was happy to try it out. I can only report positive about the drug. After dropping the Doxepin and being on Maprolu, I soon felt much more comfortable. There was no sign of tiredness and I even lost some weight during the first few weeks. That combined with the talk therapy motivated a lot and after a month I already had a completely changed attitude to life. My mood, which had been neutral or bad for years, brightened and I was able to switch from half-time to full-time. I was much more resilient, more balanced, more able to criticize and my interest in many things came to life again. Today I live without medication and I’m fine. I have talk therapy with Dr. med. Thomczyk claimed, but he has unfortunately abandoned his location in Kaiserslautern. Unfortunately I could not hear the last two appointments with him and so my therapy ended with him without me knowing where I can reach him today. I think that’s a pity. Although he insisted on a final discussion and we also phoned again, but I forgot to give me his new contact information. Maybe someone is with him in the meantime in treatment and reads that. I would be glad if I knew where he works today. I would like to thank him again for his help. Without him, I would probably still float around like a zombie and see no point. Here is the exact job title: Dr. med. med. Jonas Thomczyk Specialist in Neurology and Psychiatry, Specialist in Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy, Psychoanalysis Maybe someone knows where to reach him … he is a really good doctor. Conclusion: My experiences with Doxepin were not really good. However, I would like to emphasize that I have a friend who swears by this drug. On the whole, it depends on the person and how it works. Maprolu helped me a lot and I would like to recommend it here. Greetings Renate

    Doxepin for Pain (back)

I have had coccyxitis for half a year now. After the orthopedist had injected me three times specifically to the relevant site, and I had felt no improvement, I was referred to the pain therapist. It had already come in the past three years at intervals of about 1/2 year repeatedly to a coccyx inflammation, which, however, with appropriate syringes (1-2 syringes) administered by the orthopedist had passed again. But this time it was so bad that when I was sitting I only had a lot of pain, which went down to the buttocks and usually there was still a burning pain. Television was only possible in the lying, and then laterally best. I had to delete my beloved cycling altogether. Driving was also torture. The pain therapist also tried it with deliberately placed syringes, and in addition he prescribed me on my first visit Katadolon S long, of which I should take 1 whole tabl. It showed no effect for the first 14 days. On my next visit after 2 weeks, I got some injections again, but this time below. The doctor dismissed me again with the recommendation to take the Katadolon S long every evening. Two weeks later I had to tell the doctor that the treatment had been as good as unsuccessful again. Only great fatigue had invaded me after taking Katadolon, so I fell asleep regularly in the TV chair shortly thereafter. Probably that was too much, 1 whole tabl. Katadolon and 1 tabl. Gabapentin. For this I have to mention that for all my medications I still take gabapentin 300 three times a day because of my occipital neuralgia and joint and back pain. Now I have the doctor prescribed the following medication, I call it here drug cocktail: morning: Blutdrucktabl., Gabapentin, 1/2 Tabl. Tramagit 100 retard at noon: Gabapentin, 1/2 Tabl.Katadolon S long evenings: Gabapentin, 1/2 tabl Tramagit 100 retard at bedtime: Doxepin 25 mg after 3 weeks Ingestion of this cocktail: improvement in sight, but not yet well, can cycle again, but then has to take a whole pill of tramagit in the evening. (The doctor has allowed me) The greatest effect, I think, comes from this special composition, especially the addition of Tramagit. At most I feel a slight tiredness, which, however, only noticeable in the evening. In 4 weeks now I have another appointment with the pain therapist. Most of my hope is Tramagit. It is important in a tailbone ignition, so I have found that you always sit very soft. I take my special soft pillow everywhere. Summary: In gabapentin no side effects except increased appetite and thereby gaining weight, therefore eat consciously! 1 whole tablet Katadolon S long: great tiredness, possibly because taken at the same time with gabapentin, 1/2 tabl. Katadolon S long at noon is okay. Tramagit 100 mg retard twice daily 1/2 tablet: No side effects Doxepin 25: 1 tablet taken at bedtime, side effects can not be assessed. Fall asleep quickly

    Side effects: Appetite increase; Fatigue

Doxepin for Pain (back); Sleep disorders; Depression

I have been taking Palladon Retard 8mg for 2 years as a permanent medication & amp; Palladium 2,6mg (up to 4 capsules, after consultation with my pain therapist) if needed. Not even in the first few weeks after the start of intake, very serious side effects occurred. The only are digestive problems (constipation) but I have very well with psyllium, whole grains, dried fruits and of course a lot of drink. The only thing that really bothers me is my libido loss. Since I also got a depression a year ago, my doctor gave me, after previous contact of a psychotherapist, the drug Citalopram. She prescribed me 1×1 in the morning and then I should dose myself higher if I realized that this dosage would not be enough for me. In the first weeks I was totally knocked out and tired and I had to force myself to get out of bed, but when this was over I started to feel really good. Today I take 2 Citalopram for several months in the morning and I can cope with it without any side effects. I have been very bad at Ein & amp; By sleeping. Wake up several times a night and can not fall asleep again were part of everyday life for me. Accordingly, then was my mood, mood as well as my desire for my husband. A friend I complained of had the same problem and she took Doxipin 50mg. She gave me three tablets so I could try them over the WE. I then took a half tablet on Friday evenings and I was able to fall asleep quite well and sleep through (which joy). Saturday and Sunday the same. On Mondays I am then to my doctor and have told her about this weekend and she has then also written me a pack of 100 Doxipin 25mg. The 25mg lost their effect after over a year, so I took two and got to sleep again. At the next prescription my doctor told me about it and she also approved it. I also tolerate the doxipin without side effects. Because of my crooked spine, I have a lot of heavy and painful muscle tension, so I’ve been taking Tetrazepam (Musaril) for more than 30 years and I still have the best experience with it. Of course, on days when I take the tetrazepam I leave the doxipin off. Even with this drug, I have no side effects. Since I often had a headache as a child, wrote me my former HA Novalgin (Novaminsulvon) against it. To date, and now over 40 years old, I still manage very well and have not had any side effect in the years. MCP drops & amp; I always have MCP suppositories in the house. Should I feel sick, because I accidentally overdosed (and only then I feel sick or I have to spit) then at least I have help for an emergency. Personally, I am very good with all medicines and I am grateful that they are there for me. Without these meds my life would not be so worth living. I can only recommend it to anyone. Now I want to say something to my family doctor and to my pain therapist: They trust me and they know that I would never operate with the drug abuse. Dewegen also often leave the decision to me to dose higher. Both say again and again that I know my body the best and could assess and dewegen leave me a lot of free hand. I am very grateful to them. Thank you for reading this long and I hope I could help you a bit. Biggi

    Doxepin for Unrest

I got the medication from my psychiatrist, because the dates for the clarification of the suspected ADHD lingered even longer and made me almost urge my urge to move. Only sitting on the bike, I still found a way to think clearly. I should first start with 3-4×1 / 4 a day and a half for the night and possibly top up. It worked very well and I felt better. For better sleep, I should now continue to take and also try Norilen.

I get Doxepin because of a physical exhaustion with tension and weakness, but my head is clear, I am cheerful and cheerful, only the body is weakened. At the clinic I am given doxepin for the night. 1st day – 25 mg, 2nd day 50 mg, 3rd day 100 mg. It is terrible for me. On the third night I had the worst panic attack of my life. I can not get out of bed in the morning, I’m totally without a drive during the day, my legs have a lot of pain and sometimes my arms feel very heavy. I am shaking, very tense and restless, sometimes really aggressive. After a few days I got a noise in my right ear, after 8 days a hearing loss was diagnosed. The worst thing is that since taking my joy of life is gone. I am whiny, lamenting, sad. That was different before takingIt’s sometimes so bad that I feel like I’m suicidal. The doctors say that can not be side effects and want to increase the drug. But I’m not part of that. I’ll sneak Doxepin out now and see if I’m feeling better. I prefer to feel physically weak than without zest for life …….
