The drug timolol is used in chronic ocular hypertension in the context of the disease glaucoma, to lower the intraocular pressure.
What is the purpose of this ingredient?
- Lower intraocular pressure in cataracts
- normalize elevated blood pressure
This is how Timolol works
Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of timolol.

Application of the active substance timolol
The drug timolol is used in chronic ocular hypertension in the context of the disease glaucoma, to lower the intraocular pressure.
In combination with other drugs, timolol is also used to treat high blood pressure.

Mode of action of timolol
Timolol is a so-called non-selective beta-blocker. Timolol binds preferentially to special binding sites (receptors) of the sympathetic fibers of the autonomic nervous system, the so-called beta-receptors. The active ingredient displaces the body’s own messenger substances, which want to exert an activating function. This suppresses this activation. In the heart, beta-blockers such as timolol cause a slowing of the heartbeat, on the kidney they dampen the release of the blood pressure-increasing hormone renin. Both effects contribute to blood pressure reduction.
Exactly how much is reduced by this blockade of beta-receptors of intraocular pressure, is not yet known. However, it is believed that the formation of aqueous humor is reduced and in addition the aqueous humor can flow out of the eye better.
Cosopt for Iop increase
I have been using Cosopt for a good three months – and since that time too I have had respiratory, agonizing coughing attacks and runny nose. Until one comes to the conclusion that this can also be side effects of COSOPT, it often takes some time to swallow antibiotics, which of course do not really help …. A connection with Cosopt can not be ruled out now, but it is still not fully proven. I hope now that the difficulty in breathing and the cough disappear soon, I never had problems of this kind before. I stopped the medication and am waiting for improvement.
Cosopt for Iop increase
Cosopt was prescribed to me as the second drug, after the first did not show enough effect. First Cospt S (single dose) – without preservatives: very well tolerated, slight burning after instillation. This can be well and specifically treated with WALA-Euphrasia eye drops (homeopathic), the symptoms were almost gone after a few days with me. After taking Cospt S then the drops Cosopt (with preservative), which I also tolerate very well. Except for occasional burning u. Itching (usually in the evening) I tolerate the drops well, and the effectiveness is also very good, the intraocular pressure has dropped very much. No elevated blood pressure as with the first drug (Azopt) or other side effects. The itching / burning, which occasionally still occurs in the evening, may also be an over-fatigue phenomenon, here Euphrasia (including drops, for example from Wala, or in Vidisan) helps quite well. I’ll probably stick to it first and hope that the effect does not diminish.
Cosopt for Glaucoma
I have been taking Cosopt for 3 weeks now. Except for occasional burning when instilling at the beginning no complaints. The burning does not always occur. At the beginning also had pain in the eye, was more a sting. From time to time this bitter taste, even in between times a day just like that. In the first 2 weeks very dry mouth, the food hurt, the throat burned like fire. (Deep voice) Pain when swallowing and at night very strong coughing that also occurred several times a day. The coughing stimulus will have come from the massive throat irritation. Now after 3 weeks everything is gone again, until just the funny taste in the mouth and occasional short sod race. If everything stays as it is then I will not sell it. Maybe I just had a cold, but I think that was more of the drops.
Side effects: Eyes burn
Cosopt for Glaucoma; Iop increase
I use the AT for 4 weeks and can not find any accurate results without checking the intraocular pressure. The next appointment is only in May .. The instillation is very uncomfortable, since the AT burn strong.

Cosopt for Iop increase
For 14 days I apply Cosopt. Obviously, the drops migrate from the eye area into the pharynx and release cough-like stimuli. A bitter taste in the back of the throat remains permanently remanent. Let’s see how this evolves. Like other users, I noticed that the drops burn in the evening but not in the morning. Regarding applicability: Firstly, I find it at least provocative that the package size is dimensioned so that after 14 days, the pack is already almost empty. second, it is unclear why proven drip dosing systems (e.g., Hylo-Comod care drops) are not also used in this drug.

Cosopt for Iop increase
For me, the green star was detected last year, at the time had an average intraocular pressure of about 25, for which reason I was first prescribed Atopt, but after more than half a year, no effect or only deterioration of the pressure has caused (the pressure rose to over 27) After that, Cosopt was prescribed to me although I have a very low blood pressure, but the drops help well against the internal pressure (only about 20-22) Except for the bissle between me is dizzy because of my blood pressure Too much rounder I’m doing really well!
Side effects: No side effects
Cosopt for Iop increase
because of the use of the above mentioned drugs, it has come to my improvement. I had an internal pressure of 26.before taking the drops now he is 17. unchanged. mfg uli
