When should Clozapin not be used?

In case of hypersensitivity to clozapine and structurally related neuroleptics, the active substance should not be used.

Furthermore, in untreated or poorly treated epilepsies, poisoning-related psychoses (for example as a result of alcohol abuse), severe brain disorders (for example due to dementia), clouding of consciousness, severe heart or kidney disease, liver disease, jaundice, liver failure as well Intestinal paralysis (ileus) to refrain from treatment with clozapine.

Only after careful consideration of the benefit and risk by the physician, the drug for diabetes mellitus, prostate enlargement and in older people with poor general condition apply.

What should you watch out for during pregnancy and lactation?

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not be treated with clozapine.

Mothers who take the drug in the last trimester of pregnancy endanger their newborns by causing side effects such as movement disorders and withdrawal symptoms. What should be considered in children?

Children and adolescents under the age of 16 should not be treated with clozapine.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Patients should not drink alcohol during therapy.
