About Clopidogrel

Clopidogrel is used in adult patients in whom a reduction in blood coagulation (colloquially: “dilution of the blood”) is desired.

As a result, the substance is used

  • within the first 35 days days after a heart attack
  • in the period of one week to a maximum of six months after a stroke due to circulatory disorders in the brain
  • for occlusions of arteries and associated complaints.

Clopidogrel is used in combination with acetylsalicylic acid in

  • Acute circulatory disorders of the coronary arteries (acute coronary syndrome) without ECG change (ST segment elevation)
  • Patients with acute coronary syndrome who have had a wire mesh (stent) used to keep coronary vessels open
  • acute myocardial infarction with ST segment elevation
  • Cardiac arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation) that are likely to cause vascular occlusion and can not be treated with a blood thinning phenprocoumon or warfarin therapy.

What is the purpose of this ingredient?

      Prevent infarction or stroke
  • Reduce blood clotting
  • prevent blood clots
  • inhibit platelet aggregation

    Effect of Clopidogrel

The active substance clopidogrel belongs to the group of antiplatelet agents. Like all drugs in this group, clopidogrel also helps to reduce blood clotting. This should prevent blood clots and prevent strokes and heart attacks.

If tissue is damaged in the human body, it destroys cells. These cells thereby release their content into the environment. When cells that line a blood vessel are destroyed, adenosine diphosphate (ADP) is released, among other things. This ADP, when it encounters platelets (platelets), causes them to aggregate. It forms a clumping of platelets (it is called platelet aggregation), which is able to close the hole in the vessel wall. ADP is therefore an impulse that blood clots can form.

There are diseases in which such blood clots pose a danger to the patient. Clopidogrel prevents blood platelet aggregation by blocking ADP’s platelet attack. As a result, the ADP can not act on the platelets and blood clotting is reduced. Colloquially, one says, the blood is “diluted”. The most dangerous side effects of this drug are bleeding, which is difficult to breastfed due to impaired platelet function.

    Clopidogrel for Heart attack

Now the medications for the heart attack are so far all compatible. Have no complaints. The other two drugs, I can still judge ned, because I took them only 4 days. To Doxepin, all I can say is that I’m getting tired of it. But let’s wait for the next days.

    Clopidogrel for Thrombosis prophylaxis

Hello, coincidentally, I have just read the comment of an 80-year-old gentleman from 6.5.12 as an unwanted side effect of clopidogrel: it is unbelievable, exactly the same happened to my husband, however, 84 years .: We had a few days leave of Our children in Heringsdorf received in April, had so much looking forward to it. My husband had taken the drug clopidogrel for about 4 days. So there in Heringsdorf he got a huge rash on the whole body, but not on the head. The left leg also swelled quite a lot, then started a ulcus cruris with a lot of pain, which are still very large today, because the ulcus spread more and more since April. We first thought that he did not tolerate the water there or the sheets. Back to the family doctor, who then sent my husband to the dermatologist. She then discovered a drug allergy and researched that this clopidogrel can cause such severe skin changes on the legs. The drug was discontinued, and the rash disappeared immediately, only with the ulcus we have still hard to do. My husband had already been to the clinic twice, although it was also found by catheters that the arteries and the artificial bypass on the left leg (for 12 years) are now no longer very permeable. But in these 12 years, my husband never had a job again, just as the Lord described it. It’s so curious !!! The clinicians now hope that, even after an infusion, small vessels form, which take over the circulation in the leg. If my husband had not come to the hospital, we would not have learned that the vessels are not so permeable anymore. Neither the doctors nor we are enthusiastic about an operation, especially as there is no vessel left in the leg that could be taken for a new bypass, and the age for such an operation is no longer optimal. At the moment it looks like the wounds are starting to grow again. But the months since April were already intense, because the pain was and still is so great. We bought 3 pairs of bandage shoes ourselves, and yet it hurts every step. Since the hospital stay, my husband also gets very strong painkillers (Targin and Lyrica), which clog his circulation quite nicely. I’m just so glad that I’ve read this report from the Lord: so the cause of ulcus is the drug! We did not really care, except the dermatologist. Thank you for your report, and now we have hope again that the drama will soon be over. Incidentally, since April I take this drug and tolerate it well, just like the wife of this gentleman. All the best with less pain I.R.

    Clopidogrel for Thrombosis prophylaxis

Hello, I’m over 80 years old, I’ve been taking ass100 since I have 4 bypasses. My family doctor said it now good with me and prescribed me clopidogrel. After a few days, I got a terrible rash on the whole body, except the head. The left leg became more and more swollen and I got ulcus cruris (I had had a bypass on the leg 11 years ago and have never had an open leg ever since!) Now I’m in terrible pain because of the wound, of course heals very badly. Do not get in any shoe. The dermatologist recognized the drug intolerance (the family doctor did not!), And since I discontinued the clopidogrel, the rash disappeared immediately. Only I have just got to deal with the leg. My wife has the drug well tolerated.

from my family doctor got instead of Plavix (too expensive) the cashier did not want to pay more, clopidogrel prescribed. After 8 days I got hand-sized red spots on the inner legs. I stopped the medicine and after about 8 days the red spots disappeared. Afterwards I took the medicine Clopidogrel again. After about 8-10 days I got on both sides in knee height again hand-sized red spots. As a result, I informed the health insurance company of the events. Since then I get again Plavix paid by the health insurance. I immediately discontinued clopidogrel and made it available to my family doctor

    Clopidogrel for Stent inlay

I was prescribed clopidogrel 75 after a stent insertion. From the first day of taking my general condition changed visibly. The first side effects were violent diarrhea. Then came lack of appetite, again and again strong abdominal cramps, headache, nausea and vomiting. Take the drug for 5 months, have decreased in this time 13kg. I do not question the effect of clopidogrel, but the side effects are severe. Doctors did not agree to the conversion of another Medikamtes. So I have to stick with the side effects for a month now. How should I say that I have not been socially acceptable for a long time.

With ASS100 I got after about 2 years taking in stomach problems, feeling full with normal eating habits and healthy food. Switching to ASS100 protect improved the stomach problems but did not completely remedy them. Pantoprazole 20 was ineffective for me. After another 2 years, the stomach problems became so bad that I had to sell ASS100. I was given clopidogrel (on prescription) by Prof. Griesshammer (Klinikum Minden). I can handle that very well, and it helps me optimally.

Take clopidogrel for about 6 months, as I suffer from chronic headache due to thrombosis in my head. It really helped me a lot, but unfortunately I get a lot of bruises on my legs for some time now ….. My doctor took a blood picture and said that it does not affect the clotting or the liver and I could take it further. I stopped it 1 1/2 weeks and now for 3 days again taken and have again the first blue spot on the leg and now?

Because of two uncoated stents in a CHD II with an anterior infarction I have to take clopidogrel for 4 weeks. Except for a few bruises and increased bleeding tendency, when I cut myself while shaving, I have no side effect from this medication. Ultimately, I could take the drug for 8-10 weeks, without much suffering.

After one year of Plavix, I had to switch to another clopidogrel preparation. The effectiveness I can assess as little as that of Plavix. I suppose that’s good. Compatibility is as good as Plavix’s – I did not feel any difference to Plavix. The price is the only giant difference to Plavix – which is also obvious.
