Mode of action of celecoxib

Celecoxib belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and belongs to the subgroup of selective (targeted) cyclooxigenase-2 inhibitors.

The cyclooxygenases are enzymes that, inter alia, initiate the formation of certain endogenous messengers, the prostaglandins. Most prostaglandins are involved in the development of inflammation and pain. If prostaglandin formation fails by inhibition of cyclooxygenase, inflammation will regress and pain will be alleviated.

But there are also prostaglandins that exert protective functions in the body. These are important, for example, to protect the gastric mucosa from harmful substances. Such prostaglandins are produced by the enzyme cyclooxigenase-1.

Drugs like most non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which inhibit both cyclooxigenase-1 and cyclooxigenase-2, relieve pain but also cause gastric ulcers, for example. The targeted cyclooxigenase-2 inhibitors, which include celecoxib, have virtually no side effect.

The pain is almost gone if properly taken. Unfortunately, I often have twitching on my face, pelvic pain (may have another cause), a feeling of dull heart palpitations, tiredness, light night sleep, blurred vision. Everything not too bad, but annoying. The intake is still on, have only four days behind me.
