Application of the active substance anastrozole

Anastrozole is a cancer drug from the drug group of aromatase inhibitors. As such, anastrozole is used in menopausal women for the treatment of breast cancer, the growth of which is promoted by the sex hormone estrogen.

After menopause, post-operative anastrozole is also used in women who have a hormone-sensitive breast cancer that is not yet advanced but is penetrating the surrounding tissues.

For the following application areas of Anastrozole , in-depth information is available:

  • breast cancer

Action of Anastrozole

Before menopause, the ovaries are the headquarters of estrogen production by aromatase. There, however, aromatase inhibitors are ineffective and therefore can not suppress estrogen production. But aromatase also occurs in the liver, adrenal gland, adipose tissue cells and breast cancer cells. This aromatase can be blocked by anastrozole. Thus, during and after the menopause, the remaining production of estrogen comes to a standstill.

    Arimidex for Breast cancer

I switched from Tamoxifen to Arimidex in June 2007. On tamoxifen I had a strong weight gain (20 kg) and water retention. In the first few weeks, I did not notice any reaction. But for about 5 months I have severe pain in my feet, so that sometimes I find walking very difficult. It is a very strong burning pain that can not be combated with painkillers and also occurs in the morning.

    Arimidex for Metastasis; Breast cancer

In the first year hardly any complaints, since the side effects of chemo and radiation were still very much in the foreground. Since 2.5 years, osteoporosis, 15 kg weight gain, muscle and joint pain, very dry mucous membranes and water retention in the entire body. I will end the pack yet take and stop 3 months earlier. I think that it will not be so tragic and I can continue to survive. Sincerely, Rosie

    Arimidex for Breast cancer

i am 59 years, 2006 ED breast cancer, radiation, no chemo. Taken from the beginning Arimidex because I did not tolerate tamoxifen. I have red spots all over my body. I also have dry skin on my face – I do not know if this is related to taking Arimidex. I have very strong mood swings (through Arimidex?), I work full-time and handle the workday very well. Only in the evening I am very tired, so that suffers my social life and I too. Have others had the same experiences?

Side effects: Skin redness; Mood swings; Fatigue

    Arimidex for Breast cancer

I am taking Arimidex and Zoladex in my 2005 breast cancer surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. L-thyrox suppose I am thyroid op 2002 without any significant side effects. If taking Arimidex and Zoladex I have sweats – several times a day. The pain in the joints, especially on the feet and fingers, is particularly troublesome, and the hips and knees also cause problems. My skin is showing increasingly blemishes and more impurities than before (especially pitted grains on the face). A weight gain of about 16 kg I can note, but perhaps because of the fact that during the treatment of cancer other things were more important to me than to pay attention to my diet, besides, sweets \\\ are such a good comforter \ \\. This problem is now relativized again, as I try with Weight Watchers to get the problem under control. The decrease is much slower than decreases before therapy. Special interpersonal problems cause the loss of libido – almost completely – besides, I suffer from vaginal dryness and corresponding irritability. Mood swings, listlessness are limited.

    Arimidex for Breast cancer

Strong joint pain, finger stiffening in the morning, I get to move through. The pain is sometimes so strong that I think the flesh falls off my bones when I’m on the move, hurting my bones and knees so bad I’m afraid I can not make my way home. The knees hurt the most. I was now four weeks for the cure but no relief noticed. Often I play with the thought of discontinuing the drug. Arimidex severely limits my daily routine and my quality of life. If I sell Arimidex, is there a risk that the cancer will come back ?? This is a devil stuff, with Tamoxifan I came out better. I have to take Arimidex for another two years. Medication for bone pain does not help, eg. Diclofinak 50 or Prazitamol Greetings to all who suffer with.

    Side effects: Pain; Joint pain

    Arimidex for Breast cancer

For about 2 years, I take Arimidex with the usual consequences such as hot flashes, laxity, mild muscle pain. About 7 months ago, I was also prescribed Atancand, I took 8 mg / day. I got increasingly muscle pain, bone pain, joint pain, which went from the shoulder over the hips to the shins, with increasing tendency. Getting up, climbing stairs etc. became more and more painful. When reducing the dose to 4 mg / daily Immediate improvement, almost every day disappeared. Then I took only every 2 days 4 mg, after 2 weeks no Atacand more. The complaints are – toi, toi, toi – away, the suspected hip osteoarthritis also. Is there a cross effect between the two remedies?
