Action of Leflunomide

The active substance belongs to the group of antirheumatic basic therapeutics. This group is also referred to as a group of Disease Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs (DMARD). This English name translates as: disease-altering antirheumatic agents. Thus, these substances are delimited against active ingredients that only relieve the symptoms of the disease.

Joint rheumatism leads to increased formation of endogenous defense cells (T-lymphocytes) and T-cell-dependent autoantibodies (destroying the body’s own cells). These blood cells and antibodies destroy the joints. Leflunomide is a so-called prodrug, so a precursor substance. It is converted in the body to its actually active ingredient, the malononitrile A771726. Malonitrilamide inhibits the enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) in humans. However, this enzyme is necessary for the proliferation of rapidly dividing cells, especially the lymphocytes important for the immune defense. An inhibition of the enzyme prevents the proliferation of lymphocytes and the associated joint destruction. Leflunomide is better tolerated by the stomach than its active ingredient.

On the one hand leflunomide has a stimulating effect on the body’s defense, on the other hand it has an immunosuppressive effect, that is, it suppresses the body’s own defense reactions. The latter can result in significant side effects.

    Arava for Psoriatic arthritis

For the first time in 3 years, I have no pain at all, so I do not need painkillers any more, yeah. The stupid thing is, my asthma is back and I now cough my lungs out of my throat. What is better now? Pain or cough? Really the cough right now. Let’s see how it continues I enjoy it, without pain, every day :-)))

    Arava for Chronic polyarthritis

In May 2008, I was diagnosed with chronic polyarthritis. The first basic medicine I was prescribed was Arava. I was seriously worried about taking it, because I knew that rheumatism drugs all have very strong side effects. Have taken the drug in the evening and I did not read the leaflet before. After a few days of taking it I realized how I felt much better ….. I no longer felt so tired and tired, the joint pain reduced and I finally felt well after a long ordeal. Had no special side effects, except that after about one year my blood pressure increased u. I still had to take a hypotension. My blood levels were always alright. But now, two years later, my rheumatoid factor keeps on increasing and my fingers are getting fatter. On the advice of the rheumatologist I will now sell Arava u. Expected to start with Mtx.

    Arava for Arthritis

Strong increase in liver values, after a short withdrawal then taking every 2 days. Since then, the laboratory values are ok. What remains is severe hair loss, increased sweating and a sensitive stomach, and I am very tired and tired. The stomach problems could also come from the three other rheumatism drugs that I take in parallel with Avara …

    Arava for Chronic polyarthritis

After two months of intake, I had significant problems. Very high blood pressure (205/110) hours of cardiac arrhythmias with atrial fibrillation. Liver enzymes increased; dry skin and hair loss. At the end of February 2009, I discontinued the drug on ärtzl.Rat. The side effects persist, however. The cardiac arrhythmias are simply not getting to grips with. I had to claim several times the Ärztl.Notdienst. I believe that by administering this medicine, the patient is simply left standing in the rain. My doctor is the thing as Rheumatolge m.E. helpless over. It should not go unmentioned that so-called washing out of the drug, all other necessary drugs are washed out, which could be very problematic especially in heart stories. I can only advise everyone on the basis of my experience with Arave, not to use this.
