Effect of Amaryl

Amaryl, like all drugs in the sulfonylurea and derivatives group, causes pancreatic insulin release.

In addition, glimepiride improves the sensitivity of body tissue to insulin and increases the amount of sugar carriers (which carry the sugar through the cell wall). The blood sugar gets easier and faster into the tissue cells. In addition, glimepiride can inhibit the production of sugar (also called glucose) and its release in the liver.

All these mechanisms help lower blood sugar levels and keep blood sugar levels high.
