Areas of application of the active substance imiquimod

The active substance is used to treat skin neoplasm. These include external genital warts (Condylomata acuminata) in the area of the genitals and the rectal opening, but also a special skin cancer form, the basalioma, and growths of the upper skin layer (actinic keratosis).

So far only adults are allowed. Basaliomas should only be treated with imiquimod if they are small and superficial. Greater and deeper damage must be surgically removed. In the case of so-called actinic keratoses, only those treated with imiquimod should be treated who are not suffering from immunodeficiency (such as AIDS). In addition, imiquimod is only to be used if the size or number of damaged areas make cold treatment (cryotherapy) impossible or unbearable and other external means have failed.

For the following application areas of Imiquimod , in-depth information is available:

  • warts
  • Cancer (general)

Mode of action of Imiquimod

Imiquimod promotes the body’s defense and is thus part of the group of immunological drugs. Imiquimod most likely attaches to a special binding site (receptor) on the surface of immune cells. This causes the cell to form and release antibodies such as interferon-alpha and other cytokines. These antibodies then destroy both the viruses that cause the formation of genital warts and cancer cells. The effect of imiquimod is therefore more of an indirect one.

    Aldara for Condylomes

Have ALDARA 5% applied against genital warts on the anus. According to my research, this drug is an immune modulator and signals to the immune system that there is something that does not belong to it at the point where the drug is applied … in my case the CONDYLOME (genital warts). Therefore (it is not a side effect but the mode of action of this drug) the place where the drug is applied becomes inflamed; an indication that the immune system is activated at this site and is acting against the HPV virus causing the condyloma. Conclusion: The genital warts are ALL gone. For me a great innovation in pharmacology. Because the ointment itself does not fight the viruses or the warts; but it activates only at this point the immune system: – & gt; Helping people help themselves.

Have taken Aldara condyloma, application as instructed 2 weeks, first the warts were gone, but quickly again strong growths there, re-use. NW were out of mild skin irritation none. Then you had me cut off by a proctologist, three of them have grown again, but they can get away and the doctor says it’s good then.

The treated areas were very inflamed, severe pain in the treated, head and body aches, fever, fatigue syndrome. The condylomas were removed at 2x with surgery, but occurred again and again after 2 weeks. I recommend everyone to continue the therapy with Aldara, even if this is a long process!

    Aldara for Condylomes

For the treatment of conylomas I got from the dermatologist Aldara cream. This should I apply 3 weeks in the rhythm every 2 days apply (Mon, Wed, Fri) and the weekend break. After a few days with Aldara, the skin in the groin and the scrotum (where the condyloma was located) was very red. It looked a bit like an open wound, also wet something. I then got elevated temperature and a general flu feeling, severe muscle aches and headaches. I put it on an actual flu, in retrospect, I think it could have been Aldara. 5 days on sick leave because of the symptoms. The good news: all warts were gone! After a few weeks again with the dermatologist. 2-3 small new warts had formed. Therefore: another 3 weeks Aldara. Starting last week, since today I have again increased temperature (38.1 °), and have again o.g. Symptoms. I strongly suggest that it is due to Aldara. I do not really feel sick, it’s more like I’m healthy, but the immune system is crazy. I’m going to stop this stuff now and hope the condylomas will not multiply. Conclusion: Aldara destroys the warts, but with (for me) strong side effects.
