Application of the active substance risedronic acid

Risedronic acid is suitable for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and for the treatment of the bone disease Paget’s disease.

Five milligrams of risedronic acid are used daily to prevent and treat osteoporosis. Alternatively, 35 milligrams may be given once a week. The same dosage is chosen to prevent vertebral body fractures and femoral neck fractures, and to increase bone mass in women who need to take long-term glucocorticoids.

Impending bone deformities caused by Paget’s disease are treated with 30 mg of risedronic acid daily.

Action of Risedronic acid

Risedronic acid belongs to the group of active substances of biphosphonates. Like all drugs in this group, risedronic acid also enhances bone mineral density. This can prevent and treat osteoporosis.

Risedronic acid inhibits the activity of bone-degrading cells (osteoclasts). At the same time the structure of new bone substance is not hindered. The active ingredient is therefore suitable both for therapy and for the prevention of osteoporosis.

Risedronic acid is mostly used in the form of its sodium salt, called sodium risetronate.

    Actonel for Osteoporosis

Hello, For almost a year, I take the drug Actonel regularly because of osteoporosis. I often suffer from very severe pain pretty much all over my body. By contrast, I already have 3 times syringe, which supposedly activates the body’s own cortisone. After that, I was always free of pain for a while. For a possible acute attack of pain, I have now got a prescription on the drug Prednisolone 20. U.z. I should on the first day 4 tabl., on the 2nd day 3 tabl., 3rd day 2 tabl., on the 4th day 1.5 Tab. u. Take 1 tablet on the 5th day. My question is: how does this medication with my osteoporosis? Best regards, I. Sander

The Doc diagnosed Paget’s disease in November. Since the beginning of January 2009, I take 1 tablet of Actonel every day (2 months). In the first week I was always pretty sick in the stomach afterwards. On the advice of my doc, I always take a tablet in the evening. Nexium (stomach bleed) – after that the morning sickness is almost gone. The pain, with me in the lumbar area, have not become much less yet. Therefore, I have to take two more painkillers a day. Since taking the Actonel Tabl. I have constantly scratching my throat, I have to clear my throat, cold symptoms, pangs of hunger.
