This is how Aripiprazole works

Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of aripiprazole.
Please also read the information on the drug groups to which the active ingredient aripiprazole belongs.

Application of the active substance aripiprazole

Aripiprazole is used on the one hand for the treatment of schizophrenia.

On the other hand, the drug can also be used to treat moderate to severe periods of abnormal overactivity (manic episodes) in depression. In this context, aripiprazole is also used to prevent a new manic episode in patients who had predominantly manic episodes and whose manic episodes responded to treatment with aripiprazole.

For the following application areas of Aripiprazole , in-depth information is available:

  • psychosis

Action of Aripiprazole

It is believed that the efficacy of aripiprazole in personality cleavage (schizophrenia) and manic-depressive disorders is mainly due to the intervention in the effects of the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin. On the one hand, the substance at some binding sites of the neurotransmitters (dopamine D2 receptors and serotonin 5HT1a receptors) acts in part like the neurotransmitters themselves (agonistic action). On the other hand, aripiprazole at other serotonin receptors (5HT2a receptors) seems to hinder the action of the neurotransmitter (antagonistic effect). In addition, aripiprazole is similar (but only moderately) to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (antidepressants group).

So far, the effects of aripiprazole on other than the above-mentioned receptors, which could explain some of the further effects of the substance, have not been sufficiently explored.

    Abilify for Psychosis

I am very satisfied with Abilify from the beginning. The first few days were sometimes nausea, but this was fast. When I reduced from 10mg to 5mg / per day, initially there was a slight tremor in my hands. This also subsided, so I do not have to report any significant side effects. I’m very satisfied. I am convinced of the effectiveness, but I do not know if it is more effective than other drugs. Have never had relapses taking medication, only when not taking. Do not experience any restrictions on my quality of life.

Since the increase of 10mg Abilify I have a constant seat uneasiness. I can not sit for longer than 5-10 minutes let alone focus on something … Very disturbing are the sleep disorders that keep me awake for days and can only be corrected with sleeping pills … in 3 weeks I have about 6 kilos increased! Otherwise, the drug helps me very well against the hallucinations and Tavor at the fear and panic.

    Abilify for Psychosis

Initially, I complained of nausea and dizziness, I was extremely tired for about 3 days. Then it was suddenly as if someone had removed a parking claw. After a long time with strong drive disturbances, I am now full of energy and able to do the daily tasks. In the meantime, however, perceptual disturbances occur again and again. There is strong inner restlessness. At the beginning of the treatment I was able to B. not sleep well. I woke up at night 4-5 times and woke up around 4.30 am every morning. Sleep was out of the question. But with some exceptions, that has improved. After taking Risperdal (duration of intake 1 year) increased about 15 kg, I could now reduce again after the drug conversion with Abilify and Sport 5 kg. Have no more hunger attacks. It creates a feeling of satiety relatively quickly.

Now combination of Abiliy 20 mg, Trevilor 75mg retard, Dominal 40- 80mg, tags sometimes Asperin. I can only say I have not felt so comfortable for years. Certainly worth a try for others too. Abilify for Psychosis

I’ve been taking Abilify for two months now against my last year’s psychosis. Have tried several other drugs before. From Seroquel, I became so tired in the evening after eating that I almost could not get up from the table. From Zeldox I got such a severe abdominal pain that I even had to be hospitalized for several days in the Gastroenteorologie and after half a year taking the maximum dose, the psychosis has occurred for the second time. With Abilify, I have absolutely no side effects and the psychosis is gone. I have absolutely no symptoms and can only recommend the medicine. Even the dreaded weight gain has been missed. The previously noted by the doctor nervousness I have not.

    Abilify for Personality disorders

Strong restlessness and agility. Except for sleeping, I could never stay longer than about 5 minutes in one place. I was not able to have a long conversation. I had to sit for a long time, I held tightly clenched to hold it, stuck to an object. Constantly I had the urge to do something. One evening I even had a blurry look and saw a dancing point of light. With discontinuation of the drug the side effects disappeared within less than 24 hours.
