About Abilify

Aripiprazole is used on the one hand for the treatment of schizophrenia.

What is the purpose of this ingredient?

  • Dulling Delusions
  • calm
  • reduce pathological overstroke

This is how Aripiprazole works

Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of aripiprazole.
Please also read the information on the drug groups to which the active ingredient aripiprazole belongs.

Application of the active substance aripiprazole

Aripiprazole is used on the one hand for the treatment of schizophrenia.

On the other hand, the drug can also be used to treat moderate to severe periods of abnormal overactivity (manic episodes) in depression. In this context, aripiprazole is also used to prevent a new manic episode in patients who had predominantly manic episodes and whose manic episodes responded to treatment with aripiprazole.

For the following application areas of Aripiprazole , in-depth information is available:

  • psychosis

Action of Aripiprazole

It is believed that the efficacy of aripiprazole in personality cleavage (schizophrenia) and manic-depressive disorders is mainly due to the intervention in the effects of the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin. On the one hand, the substance at some binding sites of the neurotransmitters (dopamine D2 receptors and serotonin 5HT1a receptors) acts in part like the neurotransmitters themselves (agonistic action). On the other hand, aripiprazole at other serotonin receptors (5HT2a receptors) seems to hinder the action of the neurotransmitter (antagonistic effect). In addition, aripiprazole is similar (but only moderately) to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (antidepressants group).

So far, the effects of aripiprazole on other than the above-mentioned receptors, which could explain some of the further effects of the substance, have not been sufficiently explored.

    Abilify for Psychosis

After experiencing my psychosis, I got Risperdal, which made me very stiff. After I switched to Abilify the stiffness was gone. Abilify caused me inner anxiety which later disappeared, but the restlessness in the legs remained until today. In the time with Olanzanpin and Abilify I have gained about 15 kilos. I was able to lose 5 kilos after my jaw operation, but I still weigh 85 kilos.

    Abilify for Concentration disorders; Depression

Antipsychotics (first Seroquel, later Abilify) were the most horrible drug experience of my life. Horrible … Under Seroquel I had NO ideas anymore. I felt like my brain and mind were in chains, I felt inhibited and thinking slowed down, it was awful. The term chemical straitjacket fits it very well. And Abilify has caused me a terrible joylessness (also called anhedonia). No matter what I did, I absolutely did not enjoy it. In my worst depressive times it was not so bad. I swore never to touch NL again. I find it terrifying how a drug can take away so much creativity and individuality, vitality and initiative and that without making you tired. I was not tired of it. but otherwise the antipsychotics were paralyzing in every way. ————————————————– ———————– Seroquel for the treatment of concentration problems Because it can help against concentration problems, I have taken 600 mg of Seroquel Prolong for 7 weeks. I had NO ideas and under this condition I suffered a lot. Fatigue disappeared in 10 days, lack of ideas did not disappear. The withdrawal was a liberation. Klaus Windgassen in the Deutsches Ärzteblatt, issue 48/2004: “Under classical neuroleptics, on the contrary, psychological changes can occur which are often barely distinguishable from this [negative symptoms] and are therefore also called secondary negative symptoms. Patients may suffer from neuroleptic-induced affective depletion, more often there is still a decline in coagulative processes or a loss of spontaneity and trauma. Although these accompanying effects of neuroleptic therapy are completely reversible (as well as, as a rule, the physical side effects), they can considerably burden the patient. I do not know if Seroquel belongs to the classic neuroleptics. In any case, the LETTERING describes exactly how Seroquel worked for me. Whether Seroquel helped me with the concentration, I can not say. I did not get any concentration problems after weaning until today (4 years later). I found out what was causing my concentration problems. Namely that too many worries have gone along. To make worries aware — & gt; Concern consciously pushing aside because I want to do this activity now — & gt; I can concentrate properly. The Seroquel was just awful, I had NO ideas anymore. How many incidents you have constantly, you only notice when that’s gone. Quite apart from the fact that I want to work in the thesis in a working group that develops new devices for analytics in chemistry, I have to bring in my own ideas. At the time, I also wrote a choir set for two gospel songs, for my church choir. This was no longer possible under Seroquel, I had no more melodies in my head. A horrible condition, something like that. No more Seroquel I could not laugh anymore under the influence of Seroquel. The round was laughing and I knew that normally I would laugh, but it did not work. It’s not under the influence of Seroquel. I suffered from joylessness because of Seroquel. Music gave me nothing more, sex has given me nothing more. It was generally difficult or impossible to develop positive feelings under the influence of Seroquel. More difficult than in depressive phases, which I have by nature, it is still better and more often than under the influence of Seroquel. I also suffer in depressive phases with joylessness, but not without gaps. There are always bright spots where I can look forward perfectly. The joyless that causes me Seroquel, is complete and therefore worse. I suffer more from the condition that Seroquel causes me than from the depressive phases. Because of the joylessness I got 30 mg Citalopram prescribed. But that did not help. Only settling Seroquel has benefited. ————————————————– ———————– Because of my complaints about Seroquel the clinician changed me to Abilify. I tolerated it even worse. One week seroquel washout, then 10 days without antipsychotics, then over 9 days creeping on Abilify 10 mg. The citalopram I have continued all the time. Here is the review of Abilify: ——————————————– —————————– Abilify for the treatment of depression and concentration problems I have

    Abilify for Psychosis

I got Abilify in the clinic. I did not feel well with it. I got confused in my head. Then they stopped it. I can advise against this drug anyone, it is a bad crime to bring such new atypical psychotropic drugs on the market. Steer clear of Abilify, as this remedy can lead to sudden death, as indicated on the package leaflet, or to suicide. Just bad.

    Abilify for Depression

I was broken and petrified after an incident, so I went to a psychology clinic, Abilify was prescribed to me. since I always slept long, and having problems getting up earlier, the positive effect with Abilify was that I automatically got up around eight in the morning. and suddenly I was totally horny, more than usual. I did not feel any side effects, and I did not feel better. I can not say why I was prescribed this, I am just depressed and unhappy. After discontinuing abilifys I suddenly had problems with the potency, is now 2 years ago and no one can help me, and that makes me more and more finished. I took abilify in between to counteract it, but since 10 months I do not take it anymore. my libido is totally down, it does not work anymore, only if and when I’m really tired. was at 3 urologists and no one has advice, because I am athletic and self-confident, and have excellent blood levels. If anyone has any advice, I beg you, I’m about to reach Abilify again.

    Abilify for Psychosis

Hello! Take Abilify in low dosage (2.5mg) for about 4 weeks in the evening! At the beginning of the intake strong restlessness and anxiety in the evening sleep disturbances. Now after 3-4 weeks stiff neck, restlessness, pulling in the joints, mild heart pain with radiation in the left arm, massive breathing problems (difficult to breathe) slight cramps in the throat, tingling and pulling in the legs. But it also works very well against the psychosis and after I took Zyprexa for years and was constantly dizzy and gaining weight, I want to stay with Abilify for the time being. Have in these 4 weeks of taking also lost about 10 kg of weight which is also positive. In severe convulsions I take 1/2 Akineton (1mg) in the evening I take a light antidepressant Trittico 75mg. Sleep is back. I hope that the side effects improve and the antidepressant begins to work (take it for about 3-4 days)!

    Abilify for Hallucinations; Psychosis

One day, 10 years ago, I started to hear voices. But only went to the doctor when I could not stand it anymore. The diagnosed schizophrenia and I were prescribed amisulpride. This worked within a very short time and turned off the votes. At first I only got 100mg, but thats not much, I know people who take 600mg daily. Despite the low dose, my body now changed, gaining almost 20 kg (from 66 kg to 86 kg for a 1.80 m middle-aged man). During this weight gain, I always felt I was not properly in my body, but that’s over now. Also, the weight gain came to a standstill, the weight now remains at 86 to 87 kg, where I must practice discipline while eating, but have no food cravings, otherwise no other side effects. The regular dose is now 200 mg daily. Because this constant feeling of fullness and the swollen abdomen went to the cookie, I asked for a medication that does not make you fat. We then tried it with Abilify. Already in the pharmacy the shock: Abilify costs a multiple of Amisulprid and I had to pay 10 euros, which I do not have to Amisulprid. After taking 10 mg Abilify extreme restlessness, a tingling and pulsing throughout the body, so I could not sleep at night. In spite of Abilify, the voices came back, so the dose should have been increased, which would have worsened sleep problems. After a few days of Abilify, I returned to Amisulprid. I’m still waiting until a drug is developed that I tolerate and that does not make me fat.

    Abilify for Psychosis

I take Abilify for about 6 weeks because of strong listlessness (previously Solian). Although Antieb is better, but I have very strong NW (urge to move, trembling, strange feeling in the stomach, dry mouth). The drug has also triggered psychotic feelings again (fear of persecution, problems with people to talk, etc.) I can not recommend the drug because of the strong NW.

    Abilify for Depression

The use of Abilify together with Zyprexa (for conversion), it came after the first two revenues to severe stomach problems. Since the symptoms had not subsided after 4 weeks, the drug had to be discontinued immediately. These complaints have not gone away and have since been treated with MCP (internist) and Buscopan. Treatment unsuccessful – condition worsens. The ultrasound showed abnormal images / changes in the liver and kidneys the day before yesterday. Findings are still pending. The effectiveness of the drug can not be assessed. The price / performance ratio was not. It should only be very expensive. Due to the serious side effects, the drug can not be recommended.

    Abilify for Bipolar disorder

Hi – I take Abilify for 2 years – I have involuntary twitching in my right hand for some time now. So the normal tremor that you get as a side effect. So far, the twitching occurs only in my right hand. Otherwise, I am very well adjusted to the drug and have since had no mania. In the beginning I had a very strong seat discomfort in the legs (akathisia). Overall, I can only recommend the drug. At the moment I am still very depressed – but I do not know if that is also the result of the drug – therefore it blocks the dopamine the connection would be so close … I’m not a doctor, however …

    Abilify for Psychosis

since taking this drug of 15 mg, I noticed right at the beginning of a trembling of my lips and hands. When I approached the in-clinic doctors and did not want to take it anymore, I was told that using this medicine was far more important and my shivering would be very minimal and would disappear after this medication was discontinued. Unfortunately, this trembling is still available 5 years later and many people have already addressed me to my trembling and asked me if I was afraid or excited. I only noticed after the medication had stopped after about 6 months that my whole body was shaking. It was only this year when I was in the hospital I was asked by attending physicians if I would suffer from Parkinson’s. however, no investigations have yet been made. I have not had any schizophrenia since then but my shaking is so bad for me that I accidentally press the keys twice while writing with 10 fingers on the laptop or spilling the soup from the soup spoon while eating my soup. So I have definitely suffered a lasting damage from the drug which annoys me very much.

    Abilify for Bipolar disorder

I have been taking the drug for about 6 weeks now because of my bipolar disorder. Initially (the first two weeks of inpatient treatment, at that time I got 15mg), severe sedation, fatigue, tingling and trembling in the fingers, the feeling that there is no strength in the body. The intake took place in the morning around 8 o’clock and the side effects occurred mostly between 9 and 15 o’clock. In the afternoon it got better. Meanwhile, I take 10 mg, the tingling is completely gone, now and then slightly shaky hands. Tiredness persists about 1 hour after ingestion and then stops for 2-3 hours. All in all, I have the feeling that I can not really wake up … but that is probably true. The mood is better. No feeling of depression anymore. Isolated lows due to external influences, but at least no groundless depression.
