About Abilify

Aripiprazole is used on the one hand for the treatment of schizophrenia.

What is the purpose of this ingredient?

  • Dulling Delusions
  • calm
  • reduce pathological overstroke

This is how Aripiprazole works

Below you will learn more about the fields of application and the mode of action of aripiprazole.
Please also read the information on the drug groups to which the active ingredient aripiprazole belongs.

Application of the active substance aripiprazole

Aripiprazole is used on the one hand for the treatment of schizophrenia.

On the other hand, the drug can also be used to treat moderate to severe periods of abnormal overactivity (manic episodes) in depression. In this context, aripiprazole is also used to prevent a new manic episode in patients who had predominantly manic episodes and whose manic episodes responded to treatment with aripiprazole.

For the following application areas of Aripiprazole , in-depth information is available:

  • psychosis

Action of Aripiprazole

It is believed that the efficacy of aripiprazole in personality cleavage (schizophrenia) and manic-depressive disorders is mainly due to the intervention in the effects of the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin. On the one hand, the substance at some binding sites of the neurotransmitters (dopamine D2 receptors and serotonin 5HT1a receptors) acts in part like the neurotransmitters themselves (agonistic action). On the other hand, aripiprazole at other serotonin receptors (5HT2a receptors) seems to hinder the action of the neurotransmitter (antagonistic effect). In addition, aripiprazole is similar (but only moderately) to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (antidepressants group).

So far, the effects of aripiprazole on other than the above-mentioned receptors, which could explain some of the further effects of the substance, have not been sufficiently explored.

    Abilify for Borderline

Abilify was prescribed to me in the clinic for intolerance to lamotrigine. The treatment is due to a borderline disorder. In six weeks occurred side effects, spotting, now failing the period (prevention occurs punctually and completely), slight tongue swelling / tongue paralysis, fatigue and mild nausea, forgetfulness. I’m better with the drug, in particular, I’m glad to have no more panic attacks because of my fear of loss and due to the subdued cranial nerve activity to be able to think carefully.

    Side effects: Amenorrhea; Nausea; Fatigue

    Abilify for Bipolar disorder

The dosage must be exact. For me it is 2/3 of 15 mg ABILIFY in the morning. In the evening, add 1/2 25 mg of Seroquel. Sitting still is hard for me since then. But in comparison with lithium, my libido is OK again.

    Side effects: Drive increase

    Abilify for Obsessive compulsive disorder

I only took the medication 5 days because of my obsessive-compulsive disorder and unfortunately I’m not at all happy with it. My blood pressure – which has been the most beautiful for many years, shot up. I also have dizziness, I’m totally tired and have racing heart. I also have gastrointestinal problems, although I can not assign 100% of them to Abilify.

    Abilify for Depression; Psychosis

Abilify caused neck stiffness at low dose and a pull in the hand and ankles. A general physical weakness occurred, so walking becomes a bit exhausting. It helps well against delusions and anxiety, it gets irritable and has the urge to perform. Trevilor caused nausea and anxiety and mydriasis, the perception was a bit blurry, orgasm was delayed. It works well against depression and suppresses the side effects of Abilify. A good combination, you can think clearly again.

    Side effects: Joint pain; Nausea

    Abilify for Psychosis

I have been taking Abilify for 15 years at a dose of 15mg. I can only report good news because it has helped me a lot and still helps. I no longer have this constant anxiety node in my stomach and no more perceptual disturbances (seeing and hearing things that are not there). I recently tried to reduce my dose with my doctor, but there were sleep disturbances and nightmares!

Side effects: Hair loss; Hot hunger attacks

    Abilify for Concentration disorders; Depression

I took 15 mg Abilify / day for 7 weeks. I could not stand it. At first I just got tired while jogging, 3 weeks later I could not swim any more, 1 week later it was already exhausting stairs. I felt depressed, the increase in citalopram dose from 30 mg to 40 mg did not help. (Citalopram is an SSRI antidepressant) I have suffered from loss of interest and no matter what I did, I did not enjoy it. Abilify® has caused me complete anhedonia, which has led to complete lack of motivation. It did not make me tired, but otherwise it was debilitating in every way. Within 3 weeks of weaning, I regained strength and stamina, and study content and hobbies have returned to my interest, and the depressed mood has gone away. I am sure that the condition described above was caused by Abilify®, the symptoms came with the Abilify® and left after weaning. Whether Abilify helped me with concentration, I can not say. I did not get any concentration problems after weaning until today (14 months later). As can be seen from the above report, Abilify has no antidepressant effect on me, on the contrary. Ciao Anna

    Abilify for Psychosis

Hello! I must first comment on the review, since I find it better not to have to take medication, but well. I seem to have contracted a psychosis about 6 years ago, so 100% I can not understand that, I think a consequence of depressive mood, stress, excessive alcohol consumption and drug abuse ………… Bumm but now! Hmm, what can I say actually I can not change anything now, but the first time I was treated then in 2006 with Abilify and got in the course of this also Mirtabene prescribed. So I did not postpone both and had to take Abilify in the morning and Mirtabene in the evening. Was crazy, I was turned up like a music box could hardly concentrate and was uneasy hoch2. In the evening the Mirtabene have given me a damper that I fell asleep after half an hour after taking, but was not restful sleep. Was the next morning so finished, missed me the Abilify and jumped like an uncontrolled electric motor. After half a year, I dropped her off and just wanted to detoxify her! In 2008, I was prescribed Seroquel which was more tolerable, but I could not assign the effect, in company with Tresleen, both were somehow funny to observe, from Seroquel I did not realize that they have used nor a side effect. Tresslen was more of a hilarity pill which was somehow recognizable, but that’s just not possible. But I thought after 5 months I was stable enough and wanted to sell them both again, which I also with Dr. med. have done! Approximately two months (2009) on it I had a flu infection, which was treated by the family doctor with antibiotics, was bedridden for 2 weeks and then sucked out like a lemon. I was a service technician and I quit my job, I did not have the strength anymore, and I barely got the strength over the summer, with lots of nature, healthy food, what else do I know ……. there was nothing left , am still unemployed and must start from January 2010 with a new therapy, in the course of a pension application! Depressive concomitants, muscle pain, breath control (passes into anxiety, not ache), nervousness, and social phobic approaches, degradation v. Selbstverdrauen.etc.etc. I think that some things come together, private, sanitary-spiritual-physical Maybe there is someone who, on the whole, has similar experiences, how long the procedure has been, there is a final cure, is a loss of strength orauerent or passes again. OK, I would get a lot of ideas, but it’s fine the way I put it together.

the usual side effects are not given. with myself I have found that over years my pulse is increased. The blood pressure is always too low. I drink a lot of fluid, I always thirst, I do not have diabetes. In connection with solarium you get stains on the skin. Otherwise a very good drug that is very tolerable.

    Abilify for Psychosis

I have palpitations and occasionally increased pulse. In addition, I can fall asleep bad, but this may be because the seroquel was discontinued. now and then I’m black in front of eyes. know that too, that you feel like on amphetamine, but that has decreased. All in all, it works well against the psychotic symptoms and the compulsion to think, nevertheless, the feeling does not remain to be completely myself

    Abilify for Depression

Abilify was given to me at the age of 19 during inpatient treatment (for depression). Because I did not progress in the single-talk therapy (thoughts always revolved around the one topic) I decided (unfortunately) to try this neuroleptic on the advice of the doctor once. A few hours after taking the first pill, I chatted normally with a nurse when I suddenly realized that I could not speak properly. It was like that my tongue swelled up (which she was not). I could only articulate myself vaguely. At first I thought I was just faking it but when I realized it was not going away, I panicked. I ran to the nurse and tried to convey her with unclear language that I could not speak anymore and I did not know why that was. The sister also noticed that my language was more indistinct than before (she was also the one who had given me the Abilify in the morning) but she only said: It’s all psychologically determined. Because the sister was so sure and I did not know, I called my mother first. (she immediately noticed that something was wrong with my pronunciation) During the conversation my language became more and more indistinct and I realized that I got a real tongue spasm (the tongue had bent up to the palate and was frozen). My mother I was also very worried and said I should go to the sister again and ask if it could be a side effect of the neuroleptic. So I went to the sister again and she read me the leaflet. There was really very bottom down as a very rare side effect, a spasm, which unfortunately I just had to get … Luckily, you now knew what the cause was and the sister could give me an antidote (which luckily also immediately worked) In hindsight, I am very disappointed with the irresponsible behavior of the nurse (she left me completely alone with the onset of spasms) and I learned from this that you do not have to believe everything to sisters or doctors right away, and prefer to overdo even the slightest doubt or uncertainty should. I would not recommend this medicine to anyone, because there is a chance that such a spasm (although very rarely) occurs. The cramping hours were really the worst of my life and I think that you can certainly resort to other drugs that can not have such bad side effects.

I take 10 mg Abilify for 3 days and feel like I’m totally on drugs. Side effects: headache, dizziness, extreme tiredness, nausea, sometimes can not speak properly, my writing is totally scrawny, I feel very weak. Dream hard and much. I feel like I’m on a bad drug trip. Now I have halved the dose (to 5mg) and it works a little better. I will observe this with my doctor and then decide if we will switch back to my old medication (Amisulprid). The only advantage: I have already lost 2.5 pounds.

I should also let Seroquel sneak out and bring in Abilify for my manic phase. After 3 days, however, I got tremendous tremors in my legs, so my doctor called it Parkinsonoid. I took it a few more days. But it got worse and worse. Right up to the grinding process. Would not recommend it to anyone

In the course of my depression and my anxiety disorders, I also got strong mood swings. I was u.a. aggressive. In contrast, the drug helped me immediately. The effect was rapid and effective. The side effects were catastrophic at least in the first days: collapse; I could not even walk about an hour after taking it; Nausea; Break; I almost slept through the first three days after my first ascent, but I was awake for one to two hours in between; restless legs set in; All side effects, except for the restless legs, went away after about two weeks. However, I remained fidgety, so I could not sit still. Reading or working was very difficult or sometimes impossible.

Side effects: Restless legs; Vomit; Sweats; Fatigue
