I have been prescribed by my ophthalmologist because of recurrent scleritis (inflammation of the skin, almost always in the left eye) prednisone, since the cortisone eye drops, which I had taken for years, no longer helped. Within 4 days, the inflammation in the eye was almost gone, I felt as good as a long time ago. The best side effect was that my migraines, which I have had for 37 years and have often been very violent several times a week for the past 20 years, have disappeared since cortisone therapy. I started with 60mg prednisone a day and then reduced to 5mg. Unfortunately, when the drug was phased out, the side effects were also extreme, e.g. in the evening strong sweats with pressure on the chest and dizziness, as well as slight coordination disturbances. In addition, the scleritis at 5mg came back in connection with a strong migraine. Then again increased to 40mg daily dose and I am blinding again, I could pull out trees. Before therapy, I often felt sick, totally exhausted. Since then, I want to be painless because it is a whole new way of life for me. The only side effects are insomnia and a slightly fuller face, but you can live with it as opposed to constant pain.

Prednisone suppresses after some time the body’s production of cortisone. The drug has a targeted effect on the immune system.
